How to attach fins in Advanced Construction

No matter what I do, I'm not able to go to the next step in the Advanced Construction tutorial.  Please help.

I'm on the step where I'm supposed to attach fins the the rocket.  No matter where I attach them, the next button never seems to work.  Also, it keeps switching from 4X to 2X symmetry as I move my mouse around the rocket.

What am I doing wrong?

The symmetry mode switches because you're mousing over a part that was attached with 2X symmetry.

I'm having the exact same issue as OP, for the most part. I did manage to notice the solution that @Fraktal posted, though, but even addressing that as indicated and applying the fins with 4X symmetry doesn't allow me to click [Next] in the tutorial.

I put it down for a day and tackled it with a "fresh" brain, but to no avail. Any advice, anyone?
