SEQ-9 shows up multiple times in R&D but unable to use in VAB

Recommended Posts

I have an annoying bug going on with my KSP 1.11 installation. All mods have been uninstalled!

In the R&D building, under Advanced Exploration the SEQ-9 is shown 8 times. All but the last instance is showing as owned. The VAB won't let me place the SEQ-9 on any ships, stating that it first has to be purchased in R&D. If I purchase that last instance of the SEQ-9, it will deduct 2,200 from my credits but I'm still unable to use the part.
Any suggestions on how to fix this or further troubleshoot?

Um if you hit Alt+F12(debug-cheat menu) and find the cheat to fully upgrade building-research all technologies, maybe that will fix it?

Or play around with those buttons, maybe you can figure out some way to cheat just enough to get it unstuck(save before experiments ofcourse).

Also are you on Steam? Maybe try verifying files and disabling cloud saving, sometimes it causes problems even if you unistall.

The debug menu didn't resolve this issue; I selected the maximum ___ buttons but it still looks the same.

I'm not on Steam, I bought the game directly from the KSP Store.

Here's what my Advanced Exploration options look like:

Hmm, i found these older posts, a way to edit persistent and relock that tech so you get it unstuck and unlock it again, of course backup first before any changes...i haven't tested it but they seem legit solutions.

I also found that this is caused by the mods causing duplicates items and it might be your save is kinda littered with some of what the mods did(also there is a mod that you have to wait few days to unlock)

I deleted the entire advExploration section in my persistence file. After reloading my save, I went into R&D and researched Advanced Exploration. I noticed that there were 2 instances of SEQ-9 available to purchase. I then went into the VAB and tried to purchase the SEQ-9 through there but am still getting the R&D purchase is required. The other cargo containers' behavior was normal in that I purchased in the VAB then was able to place the part.

  • 2 weeks later...

I am definitely having this same problem.

It seems to only apply to a Career Mode game, with the "No Entry Purchase Required on Research" disabled.

How to replicate:

  • Create a new Career Mode
  • Uncheck "No Entry Purchase Required on Research"
  • Give yourself max Starting funds and Science
  • Upgrade Science and research up to "Advanced Exploration"
  • Attempt to buy and use SEQ-9

I have tried a number of different ways of doing this with no success. It is frustrating because I really don't want to just "unlock all science" for the purpose of getting that one part usable. I have not figured out a way to modify my save file to make it usable either.

If you can exclude that it is caused by a mod, I suggest you report the bug here: https://bugs.kerbalspaceprogram.com/projects/ksp/issues

@theHoleK I figured out what the issue is! I am also not using Steam so this may only be particular to users still going through the KSP store to get updates.

If you have upgraded a game install from before 1.11 with "Breaking Ground" installed you are left with a folder containing duplicate Cargo Container parts that were originally only a part of the expansion. This might also happen if you did not download the latest version of "Breaking Ground" from the store.

To get it to work correctly, delete the following folder:

KSP_win64\GameData\SquadExpansion\Serenity\Parts\Cargo

The SEQ-9 part will become available again. For some reason it has a conflict with the one added by Squad as part of 1.11 "Some Assembly Required" that is in the Squad directory.

@VoidSquid I don't know if this necessitates a bug or not considering the niche case.
