Duna jetpack?

It's been a long time since I landed on Duna (many game versions ago), but it used to be that you could (barely) jetpack on Duna. However, my Kerbals seem rooted to the ground there now. Did this change?

(Fortunately I saved game before trying this, so I guess I can skip planting a flag if I have to.)

OK, so I kind of answered my own question. Turns out if I just sit there with the jetpack running they stay stuck to the ground, but if I also jump, they (just barely) can start to fly with a (just barely) positive rate of climb.

The EVA pack used to work. I think the parachute and other things in inventory add mass now.

I’m still on 1.10, about to roll back to 1.8.1 or 1.7.3. All the changes since are a net negative for me.

In order to prevent sliding, everything now sticks to the ground a little bit, including Kerbals. So yeah, you have to break that surface tension somehow. Jumping is good.

but despite jumping, still the mass of the kerbal+equipment was increased, so jetpack won't work anymore as it used to. but yes, as you found out, you can still at least reach the crew hatch of your ship
