Expandable/Flexible Struts for Robotic Parts

Recommended Posts

I think we all know that when it comes to robotic parts, sometimes that Kraken can strike due to the unstable structure.  But you can't fix that with struts. You could put them on in orbit once there extended but is that really helpful? Its kind annoying.  So I am suggestioning that Kerbal Space Program could use an Expandable or Flexible Strut. Thus strut will be able to expand and be flexible for robotic parts.

Ooor use autostruts. You're not limited by any length with these.

You can't use physical struts across robotic joints. Likely, you can't use autostruts either, especially when the joints are moving. That's the issue.

You can build your own struts with a pair of unpowered universal joints (servo-hinge-hinge), a lightly-powered piston, and a strut. Granted, that's 8 parts, but it's very possible. If you only need to constrain 2D movement, it's hinge-piston-hinge-strut.
