How does this thing work?!?

I can't seem to be able to use the  orbital survey feature on the M700 scanner. I was in a polar orbit of 60KM around Duna and it still didn't work. there was a 2KM difference between the apogees and the peroposis...is that too much of a difference to be a stable orbit?

I don't think that 60km is high enough, but it varies based on the size of the body you are orbiting.

When you right click on the survey scanner and attempt to perform the orbital survey but you aren't high enough it should have a message come up with the height range of the orbit that is required to complete the scan. For Duna, try going for a polar orbit that is at least 100 km.

Yes I got an error message saying "you need to be in a stable polar orbit between 32KM and 1500KM"

Stable orbit is one that doesn't enter the atmosphere. The wiki has it as 50km for Duna.

But you might not be close enough to a polar orbit for the scanner. It's tolerance is ±10 degrees from vertical.
