Wingload - Modular Winglets with attachment points at their tips. Will require reinforcement with struts if large boosters are attached to them.

Signal Flare - Attach to anything you want to keep track of or leave it behind at any other point in space you want to have as a frame of reference. Attaches to anything.

Solar Collector - A Fuel cell that turns solar energy into fuel. Basically a zero-thrust engine with negative consumption. Unfortunately it\'s currently able to 'refill' a tank past its rated capacity.

Payload Fairing Set V1.7

As requested and after a hell of a lot of work, I\'ve finished a split payload fairing set in both 3 and 2 meter diameters.

Includes

+ PLF Explosive bolt

+ PLF 3m Bulkhead

+ PLF 3m Nose Cone

+ PLF 3m Nose Half

+ PLF 3m Wall Half

+ PLF 3m Wall Half Short

+ PLF 2m Bulkhead

+ PLF 2m Nose Cone

+ PLF 2m Nose Half

+ PLF 2m Wall Half

+ PLF 2m Wall Half Short

+ PLF 1.75m Bulkhead

+ PLF 1.75m Nose Cone

+ PLF 1.75m Nose Half

+ PLF 1.75m Wall Half

+ PLF 1.75m Wall Half Short

plf_04.jpg

Includes an explosive bolt that you surface mount to the top edge of a 1.75 meter, 2 meter, or 3 meter tank. The explosive bolts act as an attachment point for the PLF halves.

Or you can use one of the nose cones on-top of a nano decoupler.

Radial Booster Pack v2.2

radialboosterpack2.jpg

1. Radial Ullage Booster - For assisting stage separation. Very short firing time.

2. Radial Solid Booster - Angular thrust for directional stability.

3. Radial Spin Booster - Provides rotational thrust to aid in trajectory stabilization.

4. Radial Liquid Booster - Throttle adjustable thrust for directional stability. Must be attached to liquid fuel tank.

5. Radial Large Liquid Booster - Like before, only larger.

6. Radial Retro Booster - For assisting stage separation. Very short firing time.

Flying Saucer v1.0 - Low-weight cheat parts. Body/Tank piece, plus an engine with low thrust and infinite fuel. Fits inside a 3-meter Payload fairing.

Handles best with SAS turned on.

Link and images in first post.

I have a few parts I may want to add to it later.

+ 1.75 meter diameter parts

+ Short strake (to surface attach to walls to aid stable separation in-flight)

+ Modify Explosive Bolt to allow it to separate individual panels from eachother

Bravo! Excellent parts as ever!

Used Sunday's 3m decoupler as the payload base. The explosive bolts are a little powerful, the push the bottom out so fast the top pivots down and wipes out the payload. I turned the ejection force down to 2 and it's better.

I tried to do this with the double length solids and LFT like the Titan IV, but it kept breaking the stack in the middle.

To control their hinge out you can do several things.

1. Reduce Explosive bolt force, or even make it a small negative number.

2. Attach a strake or winglet to the surface of the Wall Half. The off-center drag with pull the fairing away. At some point I intend to make a shortened strake to use with these.

3. Attach a ullage booster to the inside surface of the Wall Half and stage it with the explosive bolt.

4. Attach a strut to the outside surface of the Wall Half and the outside surface of the item you're attaching the Explosive bolt to. Placement and staging it with the explosive bolt or not can affect the rotation moved of the fairing.

5. Cut your throttle to zero when detaching the fairing.

CaptainSlug, you said that if the PLF halves 'wiggle' during flight to stiffen them with a strut. Well, my latest design peels open like a banana during flight, lol.

I can't get the struts to attach to the PLF halves. How do you go about attaching them? They just float through the panels and won't attach to anything. ???

Can someone please make a tutorial on how to use the fairings?

method 1

Attach a pair of the Explosive Bolts to a base on sym=2

Attach the side walls to the bolts

Attach the nose cone halves to the side walls

use a strut on the nose halves to hold them together

method 2

use a decoupler at the top of your payload

attach the solid nose cone

attach the walls to the side attach points on the nose cone

look at the Titan IIIE I posted on the 1st page, you can see the strut on the nose halves.

The prototype works, albeit with some serious stability issues. Need to work on that, then get this into space.

It can also carry satellites with the proper decoupler, but who gives a damn about that?

PS: Slug - I would suggest modifying the explosive bolt plate so that it allows you to stick boosters and such on it as well. Despite my general ineptitude I'm going to try modding it myself :P

OMG... never thought I'd see a manned ballistic missile.

It would really help if I had proper parts... of note:

1) Very short radial decouplers - the long ones made by Nova (I think) are extremely long, longer than I can use. Having the explosive bolts from this pack modified into a second one to allow bolt-on boosters would remedy this.

2) 0.25M parts. You can see I'm using the micro liquid fuel tanks, but this has problems on its own, notably strength and stability - the more things you stack the less stable it is, after all. Struts only do so much...

3) 1.75m, 2m, and 3m structural bulkheads. Basically, similar to Sunday Punch's 3m 1-to-5 or 1-to-7 bits, so I can form sections easier.

4) Better payloads :P These bombs are AWFULLY huge.

Really the best at this point would be 0.25M parts :)

If you edit the part.cfg of the explosive bolt and enable allowsrfattach you can use it as a typical radial decoupler.

Like so

// attachment rules: stack, srfAttach, allowStack, allowSrfAttach, allowCollision
attachRules = 0,1,1,1,1

I didn't do this by default because I thought with how small these are it would be difficult to be sure you actually attached a part to them. Maybe I should scale up their length a bit more.

Worked like a champ - no problems so far, but I'm using it to hold bombs on... so there you go. I even made a second part with less explosive force so they drop rather than get thrown off so I can still use the original one for fairings. It's a great payload release mechanism as it's small and unobtrusive. Reminiscent of Nova's linear decouplers, but without being a thousand feet long :P

Thanks :)

I am still having problems with the fairings smashing inward (unrelated to the above - that's a new 'part') mostly because I'm trying to jettison them in-atmosphere. I guess they weren't really designed for this... Personally my favorite method of fairing separation was this: http://kerbalspaceprogram.com/forum/index.php?topic=537.0

Since it lets you 'float' the decoupler, the panels attach in the center and then blow outward without disproportionate force on the top or bottom... it works great in-atmosphere as it simply goes outwards. Something to look in to?
