Kerbals stick to the ground when EVA Jetpacking

Has anyone else experienced this phenomenon, where you begin firing the jetpack while on the surface of a body like The Mun or Minmus, and your Kerbal sticks to the ground for a second before flying up? Is it something to do with the new surface textures?

Another seemingly related issue is that the EVA Jetpack will not fire if you are moving forward--you must release the 'W' key and then activate the jetpack. In the video, I am trying to activate the jetpack to no avail while running forward.

I do run with mods but I also was able to reproduce these issues with all mods removed.

Nothing to do with textures.

It just seems to be something that's happened not too long ago. I recently came back to the game after a year or two away and I don't remember that. And when I go look back at the old Scott Manley tutorials it's definitely not happening in them.

This happened in the 1.11 update. Try jumping to break the ground glue, then starting using the jet pack once off the ground. Edit - oops, gotta check for page 2 before replying…

Thanks for the replies. Glad to know it's not a bug but it still just feels wrong. *Especially* on Gilly where a Kerbal tripping over their foot can send them practically into orbit but a powered jetpack needs  a full second to deliver enough thrust to get off the ground!
