I am confused about "pocket science"

Recommended Posts

I got a mission that requires me to measure temperature on ground level right next to the launch pad. So I tried to do this by putting thermometers inside of the inventory of a pilot and just walk towards that area. But I am confused because I can't find a way to actually use the thermometer.

that's not how you do science. you have to install the thermometer on your vehicle, then - on the launchpad - right click on it, and you'll get the option to perform the measure. that goes for all science measure, you have them installed on your vehicle, you right click on them, and you tell them to perform the measurement.

@king of nowhereuh, I have no idea how to reply to your message, so I guess I will do this instead... But my question is, is there any point in having the thermometer in the inventory at all? And is it possible to make a car that would let me drive around the launch base? Because I am pretty sure there are no wheels in the game

There are, but contracts suggest you are playing in career mode, so you don’t have wheels yet unlocked in the science tree.

  • Wait until you unlock wheels
  • build a tiny rocket that goes up 20 m, hovers, and lands next to the launch pad
  • using two mk1’s on either end and a piece of 1.25m fuselage, build “The Rolling Pin of Science” and roll the contraption over to where you need it to be using its SAS controls.

So an engineer can retrofit it on a ship that you want to  have a thermometer (for reasons) but doesn't have one at the moment.

There are. You unlock them in R&D

Now about the question, place your ship sideways and roll off the pad. Use the science part like it should be used, placed on a vessel. No need for wheels, get creative!

In fact,  once you're done with that, you might try rolling  around the KSC a bit and seeing what other science you can pick up!

True! That's what I did, about 2 years ago..
