I’m actually getting used to making lots of fast paced freedom missions. Like if my computer isn’t playing up (a problem that will be almost entirely mitigated when I get my new computer In a few weeks) I can get a mission done in a hour and a half, like in the last two hours, I’ve already got tomorrow’s mission ready. I just need to stop getting distracted lmao

The US Laboratory, Informally called ‘Discovery’ is the main laboratory for space station Freedom, however, Unlike the similar module of Destiny from our timeline, it isn’t the functional centre of the Station/the US Segment. Well, it’s mostly all from BDB - the science palettes are from the Spacelab parts, and most of the experiments on them are either  from the Apollo SIM bay parts, Or the Skylab experiments. There are also Canadarm Latches in either side of it

Also, (For everyone now), I forgot to add, I want to experiment with videos for the one after tomorrow’s mission. I need to learn how to take videos, but I’ve tested around with imgur and it can upload them and post them to the forums

If there's room on any upcoming missions Kuiper Kerman would love to go to Freedom! He's got some old silica tiles he'd like to test in space from a now long defunct proposed reusable space plane :D. Loving how the series is going and cant wait to see more!

Relations across the Atlantic had been once again improving, and the European Space Agency was invited into the Freedom program to design and build a new European Laboratory for Freedom, the Columbus module . In return for providing the launch service for Columbus and delivering it to Freedom, the ESA were asked to finance the construction of two Multinode hub modules. NASA were to build the modules themselves, funded by the ESA - a joint venture 

Named Unity and Harmony, they would be multipurpose modules, with general equipment such as crew quarters, a galley and a few science racks aswell as some external science palettes. Each were fitted with 4 radial docking ports and two Axial ports for Apollo / AARDV docking and Future expansions to the station.

Unity was launched earlier in the construction of Freedom, just a month after Challenger. But now a year and a half later, it’s Harmony’s time to launch.

Hey everyone, here’s a bit of an update on Freedom

Since Sunday, I’ve been busy, and My computer hasn’t been too cooperative either. I haven’t had the time to launch the next Mission to Freedom, and when I did, KSP auto updated and corrupted the save. Luckily I had a backup.

I’m also getting my new computer very soon, so that will be a delay to Freedom. Also, I’ve started learning Blender with the end goal of possibly/maybe starting KSP modding with another person.

All of this is to say that Freedom will be delayed and it might be a small while until the next launch, but I’m not quitting. I’m committed to this and I’m gonna try and get the missions done when I can and as quick as possible.

Note: I’ll probably get a proper flag to mockup the Shuttle tiles properly. Right now they are at 100% opacity so they don’t make the very opaque patch when they cross over, but it stands out a bit

Also Double Note: I’ll explain in the post, but they are mounted on the SM in order to test regality during launch and the mission, and then their performance during reentry.

Freedom Expedition 5

January 1990:

Less than a week after the Successful docking of Harmony, Freedom Expedition 5 sits on the pad and is cleared for launch the next day

It’s now been over a year since Challenger was launched in November 1988, and the 4 previous crews have worn in the station well. However, the events of the crew’s mission will be a bit underwhelming, as no major expansions to the Station will take place over their six month trip to Freedom 

The Crew consists of...

- Commander Kuiper Kerman

- Pilot Calvin Kerman

- Mission Specialist Misguided Kerman

- Mission Specialist Jack Kerman

- ESA Mission Specialist Heinrich Kerman 

...who will ride to Freedom abort their Block IV CSM, Nova.

 

However, their mission isn’t as underwhelming as it seems, as the Service module of Nova holds one of the crew’s main mission objectives; to test out the physical behaviour of some old heat tile design from a long abandoned reusable spaceplane program...

Attached to the aft side of Nova’s SM is three clusters of the “High-temperature reusable surface insulation tiles” (HRSI tiles) made from LI-900 silica, designed specifically for this abandoned project, but also a few Reenforced Carbon-Carbon tiles, along with the thermal monitoring systems for all three clusters. 
 

Leading the in-orbit research of these tiles are Commander Kuiper Kerman and Mission Specialist Heinrich Kerman. Their job throughout the mission is to:

A- Test how the tiles preformed on launch, seeing how well they hold by going on an EVA soon after reaching Freedom to monitor the state of the tiles

B- Test them in multiple conditions such as being directly next to the Spacecrafts Reaction Control System during repeated short bursts, or one long burn.

C- Monitor the state of the tiles during reentry and landing via communications with (What’s left of) the service module.

Another fantastic mission! I love what you did with the tiles! I would've never thought of placing them on the path of the RCS. Can't wait to see the next missions and thanks you again for adding me to the flight list, its an honor :)!

It means a lot to me to have people who are genuinely interested and excited for my missions, I guess putting these people on the missions is the least I can do :D
