Interstellar Voyage - A Forum Thread of Gigantic Proportions

Recommended Posts

Hello everyone! This forum thread is what I'll use in posting my pictures and what happens on my next interstellar missions :D

Hope you like it!

Spoiler

new picture schedule inconsistent, expect some when you least expect it ;)

For the first chapter, the objectives are:

  • Travel to two targeted stars
  • Observe and collect science

Undocking of lander

9kSry7Z.png

Some good view of Dragur's surface

KXx0EeM.png

Landed, and by luck 15 meters beside stranded ship

Spoiler

This two-stage lander was stranded because I used it for recording once and I just left it there. And now I'm on Lich, I decided "why not rescue them the old way?" so I did and there we go

xPdeHH9.png

Summer Kerman surprised and angry because the flag went 2 km above the surface for no reason

ni0D0Lc.png

Ascent back to warpship. Ore tanks are jettisoned because they're just a burden

Spoiler

Special image: 2 kerbals not exercising and just staring on the window

Here we are!

Oof, no landing legs :/

S75WTrw.png

Flag planting but without a flag. It's up in the sky for no reason. How conventional!

Some scenery!

Aurora and a shadow

Black and white "stuck in a planet" moment

Q7OREkl.png

They're stuck. 2 random crew and a Bill in here. Not much to worry 'bout but we'll get them back! (in a year or two) (and it's scorching hot here)

The last pages of the first chapter...

Kvkp0pJ.png

Launch of the rocket with the payload where it will take the Kerbals home.

Spoiler

It has a capacity of 29 kerbals, since there are only 27 (or 24, the assigned tab said 27 and since there were 3 kerbals stuck...). there are still vacant
seats. It's better to have more!

V6oBAzL.png

MechJeb's assisting the ascent so I forgot to take a screenshot of the booster separation

B3IEQ7q.png

Second-stage ignition!

zZ34s0M.png

Few moments later, fairing deployed and solar panels deployed (for "energy")

Spoiler

For KSPIE users, can I ask a question?

unknown.png?width=196&height=422

I don't have any energy flow, therefore there's no energy receiving. How do I fix that? It's most likely KSPIE.

WPMaxgJ.png

Some rendezvous things

mlci1R6.png

You can see the warpship!

lIZhwdH.png

Second stage separation, there's RCS on the payload so it can dock properly.

External camera pointing at... the centrifuge?UYHn892.png

Or so I thought.

EllXZqV.png

0FkZ7XD.png

Nv0SczU.png

It's docked!

Spoiler

u9beBON.png

Good(?) view of Kerbin!

After a little while, all crew go to the ship. And by the way, the name of the "rescue" ship?

unknown.png

gpz9Hl2.png

Q82jGeQ.png

Notice the solar panels are gone? What's KSP without booms?!

5UY33xl.png

Parachute deploy

VYVSYvO.png

u7Ybq1L.png

fQ6pJBV.png

Fully deployed

KHN5mGB.png

7HaIaJ1.png

Tumble then fall. But it's fine. Crew is recovered and mission is done!

Spoiler

I plan to decommission not the whole warpship but the crew components only. The warp drive can actually be detached and anything can attach to it anytime with ease. If I want to bring a colony to Duna, I can just dock those stuff to the warp drive, and other stuff. In that way, the warp drive can be reused! And fun fact, there are two! docking ports around the warp drive: one before the EC thingy and after the warp drive. Rideshare, but heavy!

After a mission, the warp drive can just go back to Kerbin orbit and do the same. It is autonomous since it has a strong probe core.

Is it pretty genius?

For the second chapter, the objectives are:

  • Test new scanning technologies
  • Pick out the best spot for a colony
  • Prepare all requirements for transportation

PHASE 1
Testing of new scanning technologies

cryP6HN.png

Meet the golden rocket! It needs a better name, though :/

4CRQwsP.png

Liftoff! You see immediate gimbal to go to polar orbit.

Coast phase

Circularization burn is executed.

2vlETEy.png

Stage sep plus golden fairing sep as well.

yW0SH62.png

bDvYGym.png

After some coasting and mid-burn stuff, first two payloads are deployed.

D33yYJR.png

Next payload deployed after an hour

CPtcfda.png

Last one is deployed. Mission complete!

Warp drive undocks from the crew parts.

DdVAQsy.png

The "crew parts" will be... never mind, we'll just de-orbit that

jPicLjr.png

Warp drive goes nearer to Kerbin for easier docking.

Spoiler

Maybe not, it left me on an eccentric orbit, and to make matters worse, it's inclined!

@Maria Sironayou might wanna look at this, I'm still planning my next video :sticktongue:

Testing of relay for colony/colonies!

Spoiler

Everything inside fairing sold separately for :funds:500,000

With the efforts of the Galaxies Unbound Administration, they have provided us our next-next-next-next generation of relay antennae. They called it the Relay Antennae With Reassurance or RAWR

Spoiler

Named after our naming department's head had his first girlfriend.

Spoiler

Easter eggs....

Although it left us with 2 million funds on debt, we can just mine it out on the runway

Meet the golden rocket 0.5! It contains the 4 probes with the scanning tech to see what's great for our colony to land on, as it will also be capable of making rockets, so instead of a painful Kerbin launch, we can launch from the outskirts of the system and go anywhere we want without the hassle of using an ISV or warp drive!

A lot of things happen with one stage:

Spoiler
  1. The golden fairing deploys
  2. The base of the fairing separates
  3. The first stage separates from the second stage
  4. The second stage engine is activated but throttle is off

After 10+ minutes (I forgot to screenshot), we arrive near the warp drive
