KerbNet Offline Problem

Recommended Posts

Hi all
Can you guys help me with this problem?
Not my first probe.
I have a probe with power, OKTO, 4 HG-5 Antennas,4 comm 16 antennas, batteries, usual probe/satellite stuff.
The green line connecting this probe to another and to KSC.
and still, kerbnet is offline.

Here are the screenshots maybe you guys see something I don't.

Looking at your pictures, your probe has partial control (brown probe icon top left) and no signal (no bars on strength meter).

Some things to consider here : -

Is this a sandbox, science or career save? If it is a career save what level is your tracking station?

Does the other probe have a relay antenna?

Do you have other ground stations enabled (in settings) or just KSC?

By my calculations from the wiki link provided by James Kerman, the combined strength of all the antennas on your probe is about 15.7M which will not be strong enough for a direct connection to Kerbin even if your tracking station is fully upgraded (level 3).  This means that the only way you can get a connection back to Kerbin is via another probe that has a relay capable antenna.

Correct , my  probe is not capable to connect to KSC.

But I have a satellite with relay antennas that is connected to KSC, with kerbnet also in Duna orbit. And that satellite connects to my "dead" probe without kerbnet.

My question is why my probe cannot connect to KSC via that satellite that scans Duna and has kerbnet connection. I sure I'm doing something wrong with the way I'm thinking this....

There are a couple of things that are tripping you up here.

Firstly, you have your commnet display set to "network". This will display all links between vessels that have connection to each other and to Kerbin tricking you into thinking that your craft has a link back to Kerbin via the relay when it is actually only showing the relay vessel link back to Kerbin. Cycle the commnet display back to "path" to show your actual vessel link.

Secondly, your relay probe only has 1 RA-2 as its only relay antenna. This relay antenna is not strong enough to have a reliable connection back to Kerbin. When it comes to relays, the strength of the relay antenna is not combined with the direct antennas to boost the signal for vessels relaying through it. You have enough direct antennas for your relay vessel to connect to Kerbin but the RA-2 will only connect to Kerbin when it is close.
