As they silently and smoothly lifted from the KSC on gravatic power, Rodvis was reflecting on the awakening of the warp drive and how there was no way to begin to describe it.  One moment - nothing.  The next - a sense of powerful presence and interest and .... something.  Julred assured him that the other warp drives had accepted the new one and they were all singing together and their drive was learning from the others.

And so, they continued on up to the allocated orbital slot where they would perform the first warp operation with the new drive - warp circularization.  Then on to meet with Val and Thomus in the tanker to fill the tanks of the lander.

Afterward, it was decided to head around to Jeb's Triangle Garden Hotel and avail themselves of his "kind offer" of free stays - until the mission orders came in.

I wonder what happens if a warp engine is cranky when it wakes up. Will the others accept it? Will it need warp coffee?

Julred and Rodvis were sitting at a table having a Jebs Orbital Ale and Rodvis mused playfully...
"Julred..  what if a warp drive wakes up all grumpy?  Do the other drives give it koffee or something?"
"Ach lad.. askin sooch a question.  What a Scotty ta doo?  Mebbe git mah muckle hammer!  A course they be a-givin th' new drive some Warp Drive Brand Koffee.  We call it.. " she said with a twinkle ".. Graviolium"

From The Kerbin Admiralty: New Orbital Space Station

The Kerbin Admiralty is proud to announce the next generation of orbital research space stations.  Packed with all the science instrumentation at the disposal of the Admiralty, this and subsequent stations of its class will be ready to work to solve the mysteries of the Kerbol system.  With accommodations for up to 26 pilots, engineers, and scientists these stations will be able to support high intensity landing and survey operations in the planetary systems they are stationed.

Though not warp capable, these stations are equipped with the latest gravatic drives and feature capacious resource storage which will enable them to act as orbital resource depots as well as providing needed training opportunities for less experienced crews.  It is anticipated the KWS-2 "Are We There Yet" will provide shuttle service to take each station to its allocated assignment.

They will have another mission of providing proof-of-concept long term habitation  and logistics information for the planned push to Insterstellar destinations.

Jebs Ambulance Service

Space travel can be dangerous!  Sometimes accidents happen and the contents of the first aid locker just aren't enough for that leg that is bent in way too many angles.  That's when you call for Jebs Ambulance Service.

Spoiler

XlArbSF.png

Our state of the art gravatic and warp powered mobile treatment vessels will be there for you anywhere in the Kerbol system when you've fallen down and can't get back up or you've tried to breathe vacuum, or have gotten in the way of a plasma leak.

Spoiler

MXQICh9.png

Our highly trained crews have all received their Kerbal Scout first aid merit badges.  You know that you will be getting first rate care because not only do we have boxes and displays with lines and graphs and blinking lights, but also a thing that goes "ping".

Spoiler

YwG85Nd.png

Whether you have suffered a decompression accident or have been burned by a solar flare, the medical(ish) technicians at Jebs Ambulance Service will be ready to alleviate your suffering with bandages, tourniquets, and high grade pain killers that will leave you begging for more (first one is free).

When you just have to get back to the Space Center for medical treatment, call Jebs Ambulance Service.

Inquire about our KerbMed insurance plan that can be had for an unbelieveable price.

From the Kerbin Admiralty:  New Warp Capable Space Station

Building on lessons learned from previous warp ships and space stations, The Admiralty announces DSS-1 "Don't Make Me Turn This Ship Around".  Shown here in inital launchpad compatability testing, DSS-1 features long term habitat for 12 crew members and emergency surge capacity of up to 50 kerbals.  Fully self sufficient for extended duration interstellar deployments, it features a fully equipped sick bay, greenhouse, living modules, common areas, science module and resource refining and storage capacity.

The vessel has the capacity to act as a orbital fuel and resource depot in its own right in order to support missions to far away systems for extended durations.

Built under contract by Wild Blue Industries, DSS-1 is equipped with the latest gravatic and warp drives and is expected to be capable of 3C FTL speeds.

Minor design changes are still in consideration - made possible by the modular construction techniques.

DSS-1 is anticipated to launch, perform initial orbital fueling and then embark on a training mission throughout the Kerbol system prior to the push to Nova Kirbani.

From the Kerbin Admiralty: Warp Technology Breakthrough

That Warp Drives have proven to be sentient beings has presented a major philosophical quandary for the Admiralty.  What to do when the capabilities of a warp vessel become obsolete over time?    One does not merely scrap a sentient being.  At least on Kerbin.

And so the finest scientific and engineering minds led by none other than Angelo Kerman himself at the Kerbin Warp Advancement Center applied themselves to this problem and have developed a process by which a Warp sentient can be transferred from one drive to another.  The constraint to this transfer being that the Warp Sentient can only be transferred to a larger drive body that has not been previously been activated (obviously).

Warp Sentient Sweetie, who is paired with Valentina and Thomus on the warp tanker has agreed to be the first operational application of this transfer process once construction on the new generation of warp tanker has been completed and launched to orbit.

When asked if he was fully confident in this new promising technique, Angelo had this to say.

"Ayyy-yup..  Uh huh..  Yepper-doo"

From the Kerbin Admiralty: Warp Capable Mobile Medical Ship

As the Admiralty continues to expand the Kerbin presence throughout the Kerbol system, so has the need grown for a rapid response mobile medical ship that is capable of providing high quality medical assistance in the event of a space disaster and return crew members to Kerbin for additional care.  And so, the Admiralty announces WMD-100 "I've Fallen And I Can't Get Up"

Although provisioned only for short duration missions it is warp capable and can reach all locations in the Kerbol system, return to Kerbol, deorbit and land at the Space Center and has a top interplanetary speed of 6C.

Shown here in its primary role of patient care and transport, WMD-100 typically has a crew of 3 - pilot, engineer, and science-medic - and has a capacity of  an additional 15 kerbals.

Spoiler

wTXbzT0.png

This ship is able to provide high grade medical care for as many as 4 in the main care area - each with their own Science-medical attendant.

Spoiler

xLRYJ35.png

It also features an intensive care / isolation ward for one - with an attendant

Spoiler

IzRcKPM.png

An airlock has been provisioned to provide direct access into the medical module.

A unique feature of WMD-10 that is provided by the advance gravatic drive is the ability to land back at the Space Center either vertically or horizontally depending on the needs of patients being transported.

Spoiler

DDK5LQP.png

WMD-100 is built with modularity and multiple roles in mind and the medical module can be quickly replaced with a cryo-stasis module for the transport of patients who might not otherwise survive the return to Kerbin.

A warp-powered interplanetary ambulance. I love it!

A spokeskerbal from The Admiralty commented:
"We carefully considered making use of Jebs Ambulance Service for patient transport, but we were concerned about the likelihood of crews being returned with unfortunate substance dependencies.  Also, kerbal-scout first aid training is known to place heavy emphasis on the use of tourniquets for most injuries.  Decompression accidents require specialized care that Admiralty medical staff are equipped to provide.  Also, WMD-100 is able to fulfill a dual role of emergency evacuation and medical transport as circumstances demand."

In the Space Center ready room, a grim Gus Kerman sat at the table with the hastily assembled crew for WMD-100 "I've Fallen And I Can't Get Up"

"30 minutes ago, Eve Orbital Station was hit by a small meteoroid.  As best as can be figured, it hit one of the fuel cell arrays and blew off the entire fuel tank.  The resulting explosion destroyed 2 solar arrays and badly damaged another.  The science module was punctured and has been evacuated and sealed off.  The pilot is in bad shape and unconscious.  One of the scientists has a broken leg.  The others are bruised and battered.  We had hoped your team would have some time to train, but it's show time now.  Kelbal, how is the warp sentient?"

"Watson..  Aye.  He's awake, a-talkin tae th' others an eager tae be in tae black"

"Watson?...  hmm..  Good.  Grabo, have you got a flight profile put together?"

"Yes-sir.  We're in an excellent position in all respects.  We can launch straight up on gravatic past warp cut-off and then warp straight to Eve without having to circularize around Kerbin first.  Relative position of Eve Orbital Station is such that we will be able to fly straight to it without having to maneuver around Eve.  ETA to station is 30-40 minutes from launch"

"Well.. that's some good news.  You will have a full science-med complement for this mission.  Additionally, you will have 3 junior pilots and 3 junior engineers along for this valuable training opportunity.  They're all EVA qualified so I'm sure you'll be able to use them.  Retrieve the station crew and evaluate the condition of the station.  WMD-100 is on the launch pad by now and you have immediate launch clearance.  Questions?  No?  Fly safe.  Dismissed."

"Okay Kelbal" called out Grabo "is Watson ready?"
"Aye lass.  All set"
"Okay folks..  ready or not... threetwoone...  off we go.."

Spoiler

GrrxdKe.png

As advertised, they ascended straight up to an apoapsis of 650KM and engaged the warp engine for the short trip to eve.  34 minutes after launch they had rendezvous with the stricken station and prepared to attempt a docking.

ZYdi3qK.png

"Whoaa.." muttered Grabo "that station is beat.  Shame.  Seems it was the first one away from the Kerbin system.  What ya think Kelbal?"
"Tis nae worth tae salvage effort, lass.  Tis all olde tech on it anyhoo."

Docking turned out to be uneventful and the personnel transfer was made easier by the fact that Lodus - the pilot - was awake though groggy and unsteady.  Tanbrett, the eng-3 on the station had been hard at work making what repairs he could.
The station crew were all shepherded back to the med module and the ship made ready for the return to Kerbin

Spoiler

Warp circularize at Kerbin in a 700KM orbit, adjust orbit to 72KM prior to deorbit and then the deorbit took longer than the entire trip so far.

Standing on the tarmac with Kelbal after the Eve Station crew were taken away by the KSC medical staff and as the ground crew was preparing to tow WMD-100 back into the VAB, Grabo mused..
"A little over 2 hours from the Space Center to Eve and back.  A bit over a year ago, that crew wouldn't have had a chance.  Now look.  Times change, eh Kelbal?"
"Aye thae doo.  An lets be a-hopin' thae weer nae gonna be too busy"
"I'm with you there.  Buy you a brew?"
"Aye lass.  Ahm parched"

From The Kerbin Admiralty: New Space Station

Building upon lessons from the Dres Orbital Space Station, the Admiralty has built and launched a new non-warp capable space station to test the concepts designed into the warp capable station DSS-1 "Don't Make Me Turn This Ship Around".

Tylo Station is destined for research in the Jool system in orbit of Tylo.  Shown below on the launchpad prior to launch, it has most of the design features of DSS-1 for long term habitability and science.  This station features the latest generation of solar panels that should be able to provide ample power in far reaches of the Kerbol system.
