Extreme sports tourism

Straight to the point: we're going to want to build tourist colonies that other players can visit in multiplayer.

Colonies with beautiful vistas, breathtaking sunsets, amazing skies to dream about at night. Maybe we'll even be able to charge players for a space bus ticket and a bed. Maybe we'll even be jealous that we were not the first to plant the flag at the location of our dreams.

But we're also gonna wanna build extreme sports resort colonies. We'll produce and sell jetpacks, mini-copters, fast jets, AWD rovers and bikes.. I'm sure someone will even build an amusement park and a huge roller coaster on the Mun to fund his interstellar project.

More ideas for extreme sports activities and related colonies built at location:

  • captured asteroid surfing in very low orbit around Minmus (actually saw a video on YT -  don't know if he also built a mini-colony using the ground anchor)
  • asteroid field racing (like in the KSP2 cinematic)
  • jumping off huge vertical cliffs with friends (parachutes included but useless)
  • underwater trench exploration (going down to max depth with a submersible)
  • last bus trip into the sun (expensive ticket)
  • racing jets through Dres and Duna canyons
  • Kerbin desert Baja motorcycle jumping dunes
  • Minmus flat plains ramp jump to orbit (prepare your max downforce rover)
  • falling from orbit wearing just a helmet and a heat shield
  • rover jumping over Mun craters and  Eeloo crevasses
  • volcano exploration (i hope we also get nonflammable crane parts)
  • hovercraft racing over the Rask & Rusk lava lakes
  • high altitude balloon bungee jumping on Eve
  • going down the Mohole with just a suit and a helmet (it might take a while to return)
  • last one to avoid jets collision is a chicken (1v1 on Laythe)
  • drag racing on Tylo
  • jetpack racing around Gilly, Bop and Pol
  • having dinner at the space-station restaurant in the stable Lagrange point between Rask & Rusk (then having a tug of war party)
  • Jool atmospheric deep dives (under pressure tananana)
  • surfing storm planet tsunamis
  • erupting ice geyzer riding on Eeloo
  • kerbal cannonball between Rask and Rusk
  • infinite depth limbo on Glumo
  • Minmus flats hover-racing
  • Skoot upside-down dining and spacediving
  • jousting with Asteroids
  • ring casino (tug puts you into a polar orbit swings a ringed planet and picks you back up if it survives an orbit)
  • sledding / skiing on Eeloo, Merbel
  •  gravity assist roller coaster around the moons in the Jool system
  • Eve mountaintop outlook at the North Pole (diving board included)
  • X-Games: reaction wheel assisted stunts (jumps, flips) with all types of vehicles (buggy rovers, bikes, even planes or jet skis) (also related to the Baja idea, but can be done on all planets with gravity and atmosphere acting as difficulty levels)
  • battle arenas (jets, space ships, mechs, tanks, naval, underwater). Bring your best creations and duke it out.
  • hide & seek in the clouds
  • Trackmania!

And I'm sure we can come up with a lot more! Only question is if we can respawn back at the colony / space station.

Doesn't sound to me like they're looking for a game other than KSP, instead to me it looks like they're looking to add minigames to KSP 2 without needing to code anything.

That's entirely possible, and that's the great thing about KSP 2. While it's impossible to be everything to everyone, it doesn't have to be the same thing to everyone.

It's a "sandbox" flight simulator after all, what it is to you is entirely what you make of it.

Some people will buy it to make rockets blow up, and that's fine.

Some people will buy it to make grand interstellar empires, and that's fine too.

Some people might not ever leave the sphere of influence of Kerbin, and you know what? That's still fine.

Some people might not like flying rockets, and so they'll have autopilot mods help them out a lot.
You know what? Despite some people here on the forums being against it, that's fine as well.
Because who cares what anyone thinks about your own space program that you either keep to yourself or only share with your close friends who may or may not be like-minded in that respect.
What impact does your preference have on their game, when you don't share a game session? None. Exactly none. Zip, Zero, and Zilch.
And therefore, what you each think of the others preferences should likewise have exactly no impact on your own gameplay decisions. Because your game is your game, and their game is their game, and if you never share one, it makes literally no difference.

Sure can! (about the second sentence, I doubt special respawning rules will be in place unless a mod comes around that allows people to code their own minigames with win/lose states)

- Kerbal cannonball between Rask and Rusk

- infinite depth limbo on Glumo

- Minmus flats hover-racing

-Skoot upside-down dining and spacediving

-Jousting with Asteroids

- Ring flying (tug puts you into a polar orbit and picks you back up if it survives an orbit)

- Sledding on Merbel

There's lots more great activities to look forwards to

I had the thought of 'retrograde orbit combat', where two combatants are in retrograde orbits relative to each other, and their goal is to destroy the other's ship as best they can.
Decouplers would be used to provide damage, detaching off the main craft and colliding with the other craft. Basically like throwing a rock off a moving train.

Basically a space version of robot battles. Doesn't have to have kerbals onboard, could use probe cores too, but only one control point is allowed.
If ammunition runs out, direct contact would be necessary.

First craft to destroy the other's control point wins.
If both crafts run out of fuel and have no ammunition, it's a tie, even if still-existing decouplers could contact spacecraft.

Would create a potential space trash field. If you do it around somewhere like Dres though, it'll be fine.

They are gonna have asteroid racing, because it will probably be possible

Multiplayer, At the very least, Won't be competitive. It will most likely not have a "Space Race" feature like everyone is talking about. It might as well be team based, where two players (or more) can design a rocket together.

Atleast, That's what I hope. It might be competitive. I'm just unsure how it would WORK.

Probably in Glumo's rings. Two spacecraft have tiny fuel tanks, and have to use ISRU to go around. First one to make a full revolution of the rings wins.

(Not a full orbit, since the rings already do that. Point is that you're going prograde with the asteroids and you eventually end up back where you started. No going backwards.)

Not just glumo, maybe other ringed worlds.

Of course any other world with rings too, but Glumo's one of the only examples I can recall.

There was also that planet that was supposed to be a proto-Kerbin. It's not Debdeb, that's the name of the system.

Gurdamma

Thanks.
Also Ovin. Damn I just realised we got three ringed worlds in this game:

- Glumo
- Gurdamma
- Ovin

Was anything missed, or are we all caught up?
Maybe the mysterious Lapat/Lapet could be a ringed world?

I mean, seeing as the KSP universe represents some of the most unique bodies out there (planets orbiting just outside the Roche limit, a ceramic moon, a stripped gas giant core, etc.) rings are to be expected and I would even expect some unique types of rings made of interesting stuff (are gas or liquid rings possible?)

- automatic assist chains in the Jool system (tickets available every 2.78 years)

-Eve mountaintop outlook at the North Pole (diving board included)

If they manage to fix friction and sliding collisions, this could be viable. For some reason my landing gear can slide on Mun dust but having a hull slide along a smooth ice surface can cause it to spontaneously combust, and the friction isn’t even lower.

Maybe the reverse of the friction pads from Breaking Ground?

Great ideas! I will add them to the OP (really not stealing anything, it's like communism).

Stock could really use some ski parts for transportation craft on ice and snow.. wheels are just useless there. This way we could make sleds.

But I would love skis and scuba gear for Kerbals.

Jool? No... Jool doesn't have rings. I was thinking a tiny one like jupiter has.

  • 2 months later...

After so much time I found the video that shows some of the things I had in mind when writing this initial post (the cliff jumping at the end especially):
