Dynamic Camera Angles

Recommended Posts

You know how in Kerbal Space Program the camera was always fixed; The camera wouldn’t really change it’s angle or anything unless you made it? Well how ‘bout we spice things up a bit in Kerbal Space Program 2? It would be cool if it was as if the camera was a drone or plane following you’re spacecraft, diving and weaving with it. Like the chase camera but it actually does something. Here’s a very good example from an indie game called Microsoft Flight Simulator.

Now of course this does cause some problems. Rockets follow very straight trajectories for the most part and due to them presumably being in a vacuum, it’s nearly impossible to make the complex maneuvers that make this dynamic camera actually useful. So the dynamic camera would most likely be exclusive to spaceplanes and rovers. It would also be best if it was another camera mode, so that you could still go into the traditional orbit camera to click on or toggle a part. May also take a little bit of dev time.

But other than that I don’t see any reason not to add this. It would make the game much more immersive and give the spaceplanes a sense of speed that just isn’t there in the first game. What do you think?

I think your idea is amazing. KSP2 is rumored to have weather and wind effects, it's not easy to feel wind in computer games, this drone camera system will be perfect for it, it lets you feel the wind pushing the plane around. It will also be a hint for players to know if the planet they're on has got an atmosphere or not, and how thick the atmosphere is.

In this video you can see the camera shake is minimum above the clouds, but when the plane descends under the clouds it gets considerably more shaky because the wind above the clouds is much calmer.
