MUNAR 6: YEAR 1, DAY 261

Goodbye Mun

Crew: Maugan, Jully, Genenie

And so we reach the end of the Munar program. It was a very successful... tens of days of munar exploration, but we've ended the program out on a high note. Just go to the Mun, and return. The Tendagerensis Rocket lifts off for possibly the last time, and the crew make their way to the Mun.

And with that, the Munar program comes to an end. But while munar exploration will cease, we new things to look forward too. Jebini, space stations, and Minmus. We haven't ended our exploration of space, no. We've only just begun.

MINMIN 2:  YEAR 1, DAY 267

After the successful orbit of Minmun 1, the Minmus task group immediately gets to work on Minmin 2. Minmin 2 will be a lander mission, and will be the next step towards crewed Minmus exploration. From several scans of Minmus's surface, our scientists think that Minmus is not in fact made of delicious mint ice cream, but instead made of just ice. But how is a ball of ice floating in the harsh environment of space without melting? Our little robotic scout will head out, and figure out why Minmus is and how it is. If it, of course, doesn't blow up.

Huzzah! Minmin 2 is standing on the surface of Minmus! Our instruments are saying that the the ice in the air are able to keep the moon and its ice at around 0oC, and our cameras pick up a very strange phenomena. Snow. Or, something like it. Ice from the ice clouds on the surface seem to be collecting into bigger crystals, and fall back down to the surface. Minmus, despite not having an atmosphere, has weather patterns! This excites scientists all across Kerbin. Instead of waiting for a crewed mission though, what if we brought back science from Minmus? Surface samples, ice clouds, and various other experiment results. While that design goes into the works, Beyond prepares for the launch of the next crewed program: Jebini.

JEBINI 1: YEAR 1, DAY 278

Two peas in a pod.

Crew: Jebediah, Valentina

yOH1SnF.png

With the Munar Program ended, Beyond can shift its focus to a new age of crewed exploration. The Jebini Program's goal is to test long term Kerbal habitability in space, with the end goal being a 3 month stay on a space station. Jebini 1 will be a 6 day, or 1 week, mission. The rocket will be the Kitten II, as it has proved to us to be quite a capable vehicle. It's launched several robotic explorers off to the Mun and Minmus. The Jebini capsule itself is fairly large, able to hold 2 Kerbals inside. While it'd still be cramped, it could just barely support the crew for a week. As the mid-day sun beats down upon the coasts of the Affini Region, Jebini is rolled out to the launch pad and prepared for launch.

Successful Orbit!

With Jebini in orbit, Valentina prepares for her EVA. I apologize for the missing atmosphere. I installed BoulderCo for the city lights and more clouds for Kerbin and other planets, but it conflicted with SciFi Visual Enhancements, and it took a little while to fix. I don't know why. It's always worked with other configs, like when I had Spectra installed. Point is, I screwed up. It'll be fixed in a few posts, though.

541LWxd.png

Low orbit EVA.

The crew now sit tight in the capsule, and wait for a week orbit before their return. With no science to do, and only 3 board games packed for the journey, the crew find it a little boring. But rather than face the issues of spaceflight, we're just going to time skip a week from now, when the crew are returning home.

KERBSAT 1: YEAR 1, DAY 290

I can see YOUR house from here, Mwahahahaha...

erroESo.png

While a lot of attention has been payed to exploring space, not much of it has been payed to Kerbin itself. We still have no good keographical maps, orbital photos, or weather patterns. With help from scientists around the globe, Beyond has constructed the KERBsat series, which will preform several experiments above the surface of Kerbin. Photos of cloud patterns, pictures of the surface, and even a magnetometer boom, a brand new experiment that will measure and study magnetic fields.

JEBINI 2&3: YEAR 1, DAY 302

Hello, Neighbor

Crew: (Jebini 2): Lebro, Bob (Jebini 3): Debo, Jenby

GwQCwBR.png

Jebini 2 with Jebini 3 sitting in the background.

We now come to the next crewed milestone: orbital rendezvous. The crew will spend another week in orbit, as well as try their best to play battleship between the vessels. The vessels will be launched from the launchpads LC-40 and LC-41, the first time the pads will actually be used. Jebini 2 will orbit at a comfortable 100km, while Jebini 3 will orbit at a much higher 200km. This gives the vessels a lot of room to preform the necessary maneuvers for rendezvous. Jebini 3 will actually do the maneuvers.given that it's the closest to Kerbin's surface. But enough talking, let's get to the flying.

With both craft in orbit, the task begins. Jebini does an inclination burn, aligning it's orbital plane with Jebini 3's. It then waits until it has to do the burn that will put on a course that will directly intersect that of Jebini 3's, which thankfully isn't long. Then, it just has to coast.

Now, RCS thrusters will preform the rest of the fancy work. Nothing can go wr-

2AajX36.png

That's not good. Apparently, Bob forgot to turn on child lock, and accidentally decoupled the service module. Because of this, it has no control whatsoever. With quick thinking though, Jebini 3 docks to the vessel. Now, control teams on the ground need to figure out how to get back. Meanwhile though the crew will just sit and wait.

The crew sit in orbit for 4 days, compared to the original week. All EVAs are also cancelled. Ground teams decide that the still functional vehicle will return, with Jebini 2 STILL DOCKED. The crew and even the public are confused by this idea. Even Gene Kerman said, "What crack is my team smoking?".  But everyone is reassured that this will work. The crew will simply have to spin into the atmosphere.

MINMIN 3: YEAR 1, DAY 308

DE6cs9T.png

Landing stage on Minmus

As our understanding of spacecraft expands, so  do our ambitions. The goal of Minmin 3 will be too preform science experiments, as well as return samples from Minmus, such as dust, ice, and the strange "clouds" and "snow" that appear on the surface. The vessel was rush built, as various scientists across Kerbin have been growing impatient. "Who cares about all of this space station and microgravity anyways?" said Oblong Kerman, a well known geologist across Kerbin. "The scientific community needs souveni- I mean, samples from Minmus". Per the usual, it'll be launched atop a Kitten II Rocket. However, the payload's a tiny bit heavier than an orbiter or simple lander. Given the fact it's a two stage lander, it's quite heavy. So two boosters will be added to the side of the rocket.

T8pDGuo.png

IsKXzgE.png

As they do, the Solid Rocket Boosters (SRBs) run out of fuel. And as rocket science works, we have to ditch them so they don't weigh us down. But, the engineers made one fatal mistake: they forgot sepratrons. A little oopsie proceeded to happen.

0zCNV1r.png

Yes, that is in fact a missing fin :P. Do to the loss of the fin, the control is down a little bit during the flight. However, the atmosphere thins out a little bit more, and the launch proceeds as normal. That fin protected the first stage from total destruction though, so it's sacrifice was not in vain.

KERMES STATION DELIVERY: YEAR 1, DAY 326

I don't have any good puns for this.

IbKIRtO.png

"Eve I standing by for launch..." -Gene Kerman

As our goal of reaching Minmus starts to face the light, we must now prove Kerbals and Beyond are capable of long habitation in space, as well as master the art of rendezvous and docking. As such, we have constructed the first orbital outpost: Kermes Station! It's a single module, monolithic station with a fairly big 4 crew main habitat, and an airlock at the bottom. This will be the second launch of the Eve I Rocket, a currently in progress universal launch vehicle that will hopefully replace the Kitten II Rocket once it's fully functioning.

JEBINI 4: YEAR 1, DAY 338

Crew: Maugan, Albert

N1alF0m.png

Kerbin sits and watches in awe as the 2 Kerbonauts rise on the launch tower. Today, they will head up into the very first "space home", and stay there for a month. That's right, they'll stay in space for a month! Experiments are to be preformed, as well as tests on crew durability. While sitting in the capsule during last-minute checks, Maugan thinks to herself what may happen up there. Nobody has been up there for that long, and bone mass loss was detected after the Jebini. 1% percent of bone mass is lost every month, in fact. The crew will have to go through a lot of rehabilitation afterwards. Daily exercise for 2 hours a day can combat this, but not stop it.

The crew now must focus extra hard while docking. Unlike Jebini 2&3, they're not docking in daylight, they're docking in the darkness. They have the use their instruments to tell them where to go. 50 meters, 40 meters, 30 meters. The crew slowly move in, until the capsule jolts them around. They've successfully docked to Kermes station! In time to watch the sunrise too (see first picture). The crew pressurize Kermes Station, and enter into they're new home! Albert Kerman takes beautiful picture out the window.

KERBSAT 2: YEAR 1, DAY 341

For science! (and money)...

iizESGr.png

To aid in the research of out home world, Kerbsat 2 readies itself for launch from Beyond's new space center: the Tundra Space Center (TSC)! The goal will be to launch into a low polar orbit, which the TSC's launch pads are positioned perfectly to do so. A strange request has come from the United Kerbin Administration, though. They want to scan for surface anomalies. Why would the government be interested in surface anomalies? Well, we can have conspiracy time later. It's time to launch!

BXn0FWM.png

Kerbsat 2 in LKO

A successful launch! Kerbsat 2 sends back fantastic pictures of Kerbin. However, one picture was confiscated. A picture of a certain location in the arktik (Kerbal arctic). We don't know what it was a picture of, but the UKA was very interested. More importantly though, KerbSat has picked up very important information of nor-easters, which frequently attack the Amaccacan region.

The next goal of the KerbSat program is to launch up a satellite into a tundra orbit, or a diagonal orbit. This will help us cover just a little bit more ground of Kerbin to finally get a full map of Kerbin, and get just a tiny bit more scientific data for scientists and a little bit more money for Beyond. KerbSat 3 will be launched from LC-29B, as the launchpad is also built in a 45o angle.

They say that their time onboard the space station was very enjoyable, but they would like a little bit more privacy than they had. It was rather uncomfortable to use the bathroom, considering the bathroom was in the same room as the habitat. Nothing we can do about it, but it's good information to have for another space station.

THE SECRET SPACE PROGRAM: YEAR 1, DAY [[///*^%#

Crew: Joemon Kerman

Hello? Is anybody there? Wait, you can see this? That's amazing! I can't tell you who I am, for fear the UKA will stake me out and execute me, to make sure that this secret stays secret. What secret exactly? That Kerbin's government has been running a space program behind the scenes. Why do you think one picture form KerbSat 2 was confiscated? Because the picture showed something that would petrify the public. A mysterious space craft crashed right into Kerbin's north pole. It's nothing like the spacecraft that Beyond has used. It has a saucer-esque shape, and is crashed in a 45o angle, indicating it came from the sky. Maybe even space. However, this isn;t the scariest thing discovered. they've also discovered a ghost satellite. It's a very new satellite, and it's currently transmitting data to unknown location. The Secret Space Program, as I will call it from now on, is launching a space craft called [̶̧̢͈͖̰͉͇̝͗̔̐̈́̔̓̑̓͋̒̿́̓̓͝[̷̛̰̩̞̼̏͂̔͌̇̌̆͆͜͠]̵̺͙̣̳͉̺͎̝͉̹̞̟̪̬̙̓̄͛̆̇̒́̋̚͝\̸̿̋̍͒̋͌́͌͝͝ͅ*̵̨͕͔̯͙̰̗͉͓͕͓̀͆̈̐̋̑̎%̷͇̖̙̦͖̹̯͉̒͐%̸̺͕̖̩̺̱͙͖̊̓̏̍̉̿̚͝#̵̛̥̘͇͙̞̫̦̬͓̏͑̽̉̌̀͋̃̃̕͝ͅ@̸̲̟̰̟̳͉̜̔̈́́̏͊!̶̧̰̟̜̱̭̣͈͖͙͍́͋̽ͅ. Oops, the computer glitched out there. The spacecraft launched from the Dessert Launch Site, a facility far from civilization, hidden by mountains. The spacecraft launched is a very small spacecraft, holding one Kerbal. It'll rendezvous with the satellite.

Joemon Kerman proceed to Rendezvous with the mysterious satellite. He also picks up signals with the equipment he turned on. The satellite appears to be called the Copernicus Interstellar Observation Probe, or CIOP. It's transmitting signals straight to a star system around thirty light years from here. Except, the signals are overclocked, somehow moving faster than the speed of light. It's transmitting pictures. Joemon is warned to avoid any cameras on board at all costs. Well whoever sent probably knows were here, they probably don't know we can travel to space.

RmNdOoB.png

"I'm approaching the satellite. It has an emblem on it! It says... NASA. What on Kerbin is 'NASA'? I found out where the camera is, I'll try to get a picture of it. Carefully, though.

For those wondering, Joemon made back home safely, and undetected.

As the Jebini program keep braking records left and right, Beyond sets out to break another record with it. A 2 month mission in orbit. This may be pushing the limit of the space station. However, Kerbals are also very resilient. But, the space station's definitely going to be cramped for the next 2 months. Good luck, Stamon and Jully.

JEBINI 5 CREW RETURN: YEAR 2, DAY 14

I ran out of ideas for subheadings...

Crew: Stamon, Jully

yEgpUUn.png

Jebini 5 heads back home with more science and information about long term crew habitation. The crew say that they're time on the station was, once again, quite cramped. But it was still a pretty cozy space station, all things considered. The crew found out that a good place to relax is by the windows when they're not working in the laboratory/airlock. However though, Kermes Station's time is limited. With one more mission to go, Beyond starts to design new space station that can support the crew for 100 days, 200 days, perhaps even a year or more. In the meantime though, Beyond will continue operations on Kermes Station.

ORBITAL RESOURCE ENHANCER: YEAR 2, DAY20

Oil? Oil!!!!!!!!

uObqmig.png

O.R.E. in orbit

Today, Beyond launches up their newest research vessel, the Orbital Resource Enhancer, or O.R.E. O.R.E. will do a scan of Kerbin's surface to try and find natural resources under it's surface. While the excavation of natural gas for commercial purposes is illegal, other natural resources like rare-Kerbin metals might be beneficial for Kerbin. It could make it easier for UKA surveys and commercial crews looking for rare-Kerbin metals. The rocket launching it will, of course, be the all-powerful Kitten II rocket. One of the most reliable rockets ever built. However though, it's time is limited. As the Eve I rocket advances, the Kitten II is quickly becoming obsolete. As payloads become heavier and require a further distance than the Kerbin system, the Kitten II will soon be retired, as it will have no more use. It's a sad day for everyone who's worked with this rocket, but it served us well for how long it was used.

WAK KORPORAL: YEAR 2, DAY 31

Lol k puns...

47KH7rc.png

As a special request by the UKA, we are launching their sounding rocket design the WAK Koporal. We have no idea what it's launching though. They said it was classified payload. Why would they cover up what they were launching? And why did they want it launched from Woomerang, and not the KSC? Do they not want the public to know what's inside? We ca ponder as much as we want, but we will probably never get answers.

The rocket made it to about 90km before electric charge ran out and signals were lost. The rocket crashed in the nearby mountains.

EXPLORER 1 DUNA CIRCULARIZATION: YEAR 2, DAY 38

Life on Duna...

GESBnkp.png

Approaching Duna.

After 1 and a half years of drifting through empty space, Explorer 1 finally arrives at Duna. The entirety of Kerbin is very excited, as this will be the first time in history Kerbalkind has made it to another planet! Many people speculate about what Duna's surface look like. Kopernicus Kerman described Duna as "a planet with a enormous lava ocean," but that theory is considered outrageous now. The widely accepted theory nowadays is that Duna is a civilized planet, of which Kerbals can communicate with. But we won;t know until we see those pictures.

We've done it! We have a probe circling another planet! Pictures are being sent back now... wait, what? A dessert? Media across Kerbin is confused. They were expecting vast grasslands, oceans, and cities. But this Duna is instead a giant red dessert, devoid of life. Further investigation is needed, and we also need to know what lies on Duna's moon Ike.

PIONEER 1: YEAR 2, DAY 41

To Eve...

K1TtZ9u.png

Kerbalkind once more attempts to expand its reach to planets. Pioneer 1 will attempt to reach Eve, a place thought by Kerbals to be inhabited. The first planet other than Kerbin to be discovered in the Kerbol system, it's purple color gave Kopernicus the idea that's it's probably exactly like Kerbin. And as telescopes advanced, it was discovered that there might actually be clouds on Eve. Beyond says that they cannot confirm nor deny the fact that life exists on Eve. Whatever might be there, it'd be an important discovery to science.

The dream is alive...

hTU2eY8.png

After a long time of proof proof proof, it finally time for fact. Today, Beyond is launching the first mission of the Minty Program, a program to put Kerbal on Minmus. This is the first piece: the main habitat. This is where the crew will live and work while a mission drifts to Minmus. With the research gained from Kermes Station, Beyond is quite sure that they're ready to push forward and put Kerbals on Minmus.
