Finding a PPP exchange rate has proven problematic, so we'll do it The Economist way.  Says here that a Double Cheeseburger (sorry, I'd use the Big Mac, but Vkusno i Tochka hasn't yet rolled out an equivalent) is worth $2,79 in NY and 135 RUB in Moscow. So the back-of-the-napkin PPP exchange rate is 48, compared to today's domestic market rate of 63.36.

Thus Russia's 2022 federal budget (which is the only one going towards spaceflight, and not much of this year's extra spending went towards space) is somewhere in the region of $373-493 bln.

And now I'm hungry.

Looks like the Feds spend almost $400B in NY state (which is less than NY State pays into the Feds in taxes).

So total gov spending in NY state is more like $600B

EDIT: Ie: if NY was spending on all the things a nation has to spend on it would spend more. Also, the pop of NY is only ~19.5M.

It’s really more of hypothetical than anything. I don’t think NYC is actually dumb enough to have a space program. The Giants? They’re dumb enough to have that. Space exploration? Huge no-no.
