Filling the Gaps: Craft Files for Notable Mods and Vehicles

Recommended Posts

I keep on making these, don't I?
I didn't think this belonged in my main thread. There are many awesome parts mods in the KSP universe. But not every one comes with craft files for what the final products should look like (which to be clear is NOT a dig at the authors, the parts alone are worth the download). This topic will be devoted to craft files that fill the gaps and rosters of well known "real-world" parts mods like (among many others):
-Bluedog Design Bureau by @CobaltWolf, @Zorg, @Jso, and @Invaderchaos
-Eisenhower Astronautics by @EStreetRockets
-Hephaistos (ULA Vulcan) by @Superpenguin160
And many others.

So far I have released three craft. Two variants of the upcoming ULA Vulcan, Vulcan 564 and Vulcan-Centaur 401, and a variant of the proposed Titan LDC. I would also love the input of the mod authors and many creators on the site (I already feel @GoldForest's presence) to see what may or may not be missing. So welcome to my latest project.

As for those first three craft, allow me to show some pictures and their respective download links.

Looks really good looking foward to seeing the next crafts!

Awesome stuff! Down the line, I would love to see the LM variants from BDB, as well as the Ares 1 using parts from Artemis Construction Kit. Absolutely thrilled about these crafts, thank you so much!

I like your thinking, and I'm way ahead of you!
I can't speak to the LM variants, but believe it or not I have several versions of Ares 1. Including variants representing earlier design drawings. List as follows:
-Ares 1 using BDB "Herakles" tanks
-Using Artemis/Delta IV tanks
-Using ORANGES tanks, though it looks kinda strange because there aren't any 3.125m tanks (I could use all-tweak addon for tweakscale for this but I'm concerned it'll conflict with something, mainly procedural parts)
-Using Delta IV tanks but recreating an early ESAS proposal where the first SRB stage was shorter and the upper stage was (much) longer and powered by an RS-25 derivative.
-Cargo versions (It's almost an automatic for me to make a cargo version of a crewed rocket)
I'm probably gonna post them on my main thread, simply because I'm not sure they're fully accurate representations of the proposals, but rather in the spirit of the concepts. Also most of the craft here rely on 2-3 mods at most (1 if possible), since they're meant to, well, fill in the gaps of premade craft in other mods. A lot of my ares rockets rely on 3-5 mods depending on what I'm going for.

But in the meantime, I got something a bit different, but if you're a fan of hard sci-fi space movies, I'm sure you'll want to see this.

Man, this looks familiar! Too bad I can't place it... :(

Spoiler

So as some of you may know I'm working on a lot of SDLV (shuttle-derived launch vehicles) rockets. I have a few of each notable family/proposal. Among others:
A. National Launch System (Courtesy of ORANGES, RMM, and Photon)
B. DIRECT Jupiter (Courtesy of ORANGES, Photon, and Redirect)
C. Magnum (A very tall SDLV not unlike Ares V but with twin RS-68's powering the core stage)
D. Constellation/Ares (Namely Ares I)
E. JARVIS (Technically a Saturn derivative, though some proposals did use RS-25's and Shuttle SRB's).

As a warning I should let you know that the C,D, and E would more likely be on my main thread, as they are VERY broad interpretations of the designs proposed.

So which do you guys think I should post first ( to KerbalX I mean)? To be clear I'm not gonna do all variants at once (that would take a hot minute, even though I've made rough draft designs in-game). But I want to know where you guys want me to start. And depending on where I start, which variant would you want specifically (just don't bring up flyback stuff, I'm not ready for that)?

Easily this one! The DIRECT series was really awesome and not unlike the Atlas V in terms of configurability. I really wish Nasa had given more thought to it, and would love to see it in KSP!

Ask and you shall receive. Up first is Jupiter-120.

I have mixed feelings about it. I'm happy with it personally but it relies on way more mods than I thought. I think the fairing and boosters are the culprits. I'm guessing the fairings were from Nertea's near future stuff, and KerbalX can't decide whether the boosters are photon or ACK. But in the meantime, I will let you guys enjoy this first member of the DIRECT Jupiter family.

Made a modified version using the redirect boosters.

Disregard the fairing in the pictures, I decided to stay with the NFLV fairing since I imagine more people use Nertea's Near Future suite over Kertemis.

It's gotta be the Ares 1 for me!  I weirdly love that rocket. If I had any say in what mods, I'd love to see it built with BDB and Artemis Construction Kit

This was easily my second choice!

Beautiful builds by the way! Always had a soft spot for the Jupiter DIRECT series!

Ask and you shall receive!

And of course I've made it available for download on KerbalX!

A simpler one for today. The Cygnus resupply vehicle, courtesy of @Beale's Special Delivery mod!

I also made use of @Benjee10's Common Berthing Mechanism for further immersion. However, if any of you prefer the stock docking port, it's an easy switch.

One thing I learned awhile back is that there were numerous proposals for Falcon 9 which would have gone full tilt with it's modularity. Among one of the proposals was Falcon 5, which (at least later on) was a Falcon 9 but with only 5 first stage engines and a reduced fuel load.
Well guess what.

Now the question is do I use procedural fairings or stock fairings? Procedural fairings looks better, but I know not everyone uses it. I'd love to hear what you guys think.
