How do you land at specific coordinates?

Recommended Posts

I haven't been able to find a reasonably efficient solution for landing at coordinates that are not near the equator. I'm interested in knowing if there's a mathematical way to calculate how to adjust your orbit (starting from say an equatorial circular orbit) in order to path over a specific coordinate and then land there.

For reference, I use mechjeb for informational purposes but not to aid in flying the ship in any manner. Thanks!

Adjust your trajectory when approaching the body (or launching from it) so you go into an orbit of appropriate inclination. Except in the unlikely even of a synchronous orbit (they tend to be a long way out) you'll pass over every bit of planet between the apoapsis and periapsis latitudes so it's just a case of waiting until your flight path crosses the landing spot.

Yeah, that's the easiest (and most fuel-efficient) way... capture into an orbit that's inclined enough to take you over your non-equatorial destination. I normally try for something close to polar orbits to make sure I can land anywhere on the planet I choose.
