Rune's Slightly Used Vehicles

How about this?

ZS0Ghre.jpg

A remake of the old Eagle, optimized for delivery of base modules to the ground. I'm re-buiding the base modules without descent systems now, and I will post them as subassembly files plus the craft with one of them (probably the fuel module, since it is heaviest) say... tomorrow? Don't expect to see that kethane rover on it :P.

Rune. Other than that, yeah, I'm close to exams. :(

Greetings!

I absolutely love your work, Rune, and while I don't usually download your files I -do- use a lot of the ideas and concepts you show in your images to learn my own tricks.

However! Recently tried downloading your Mun base package, and the game yaks at me that it's out of date and won't let me use it. Was -trying- to take a look at that lovely lift rover of yours, as I explore making moddable, movable bases of my own. :)

Something I'm doin' wrong here or missing? Or is it just an older file and we're a little out of luck?

Usin' KSP .21 (latest on Steam) and have only the Kethane mod.

Well thanks! And that is indeed weird. What file? I play at 0.21.1, and it lets me open all of them, so tell me which one is misbehaving and I'll see about re-uploading it to see if that fixes the problem.

And BTW, new stuff! The Eagle remake I speak about a couple posts back, to have an overly complicated way of delivering you base modules. And you wouldn't believe what a sexy SSTO I have in the works...

Rune. I know I should stop making SSTO's and do other stuff, but I always come back to them.

New stuff! The SSTO pictured above, and because the prototype airframe showed such promise, two extra versions. Check the top of the OP!

I've also cleaned up the thread somewhat to (unsuccessfully) make it a bit less of a wall of pictures. I apologize, but the spoilers don't seem to ever be coming back... Ad remember! If you own an outdated product form R-SUV (the old Nukebat had about 300 downloads, for example, but it was time to go due to redundancy of SSTO's), we still offer customer support through PM's.

Rune. We miss you, spoilers! It was fun while it lasted.

After a couple of days sitting in the SSI thread, I'm proud to link here the Batleth shuttlecraft, a very capable shuttle capable of VTOL SSTO operations on both kerbin and Duna. Check the OP, but here's a pic so you can recognize it!

I'm trying a few of your ships in the first post

Pike and Heinlein IV are missing "advSASModuleToggle", i'm not sure what it is. Seems an artefact from pre-SAS redo.

Razor has a strange ascent profile and i can't seem to get it right..

That's it for now, just some things i've experienced, they're great ships to fly :D

Thanks, Mokmo! I usually screw up when un-modding my ships, and comments like yours are what helps me catch my mistakes. BTW, the mod part you are (not) finding is the Toggle Capable ASAS, which although a bit useless in 0.21, lets you bring back the old ASAS setting at will. Fixing the uploads now, it should be done in a couple of minutes

Rune. Which can be handy on almost-balanced ships, actually, for long burns in space.

'Plane'

Well played.

Well played indeed :)

do you plane on adding some more ssto's soon?

Hey! I missed this with the forums being down and everything. And no, I'm afraid I am kind of laying off from SSTO's for a while. I just don't have the time! I build a lot, but every now and then, I just realize I have like a dozen new vehicles that I haven't tested... And there's always the "I refuse to timewarp unless I don't have anything else to do" issue. I mean, I've been playing the same save since 0.18... and the other day the window to Jool opened for the first time (that's day 45). I just need to fly some every now and then.

In fact, I'm thinking of "hiring" test pilots for a couple of things I have more or less forgotten about. I just don't have the time to check whether the designs work or not! Interested? You might get some bugs and explosions, but you might also help me release more ships with a decent mission album to go with, and you know, first look and all that. For example, I'm pretty sure I could find more than three SSTO's that I have only flown once, and without testing the landing capabilities.

Right now, I'm determined to finish my new Apollo replica for mid-to-low-end computers (as accurate as I can make it, and only 200 parts!) I'm waiting on the return leg of the trip, let's see how long it takes me to finish that 4h return trajectory... at the same time I send about 10 different stacks on their way to Jool (a couple of bases, a Grand Tour mothership, blimps, more SSTO's than I'll know what to do with once they are there, rovers, a decent-sized armed escort... the works). So a busy time in my save right now to dedicate much time to building... but I'm getting good at launching things to deep space with awful T/W ratios (0.3 on the beefiest ships, 0.1 on the most encumbered multi-ship behemoths).

Rune. We'll see how long until I get tired of flying again and go back to a building frenzy.

I can't make a decent airplane, this guy makes SSTOs like crazy.

Thanks! I hope you like the new one I just posted, check the top of the OP! I also did a bit of cleaning, to make room. And still I haven't got in a place where I feel it can substitute the Dres V. But it's getting there, the new lander shows a lot of promise.

Rune. I'm just getting sidetracked as always with all this new science stuff... and SSTOs as always

Yeah that can get a man quite jealous doesn't it ;). Same here btw: I've made 1 successfull SSTO but haven't been able to pull it off since. Tried it with B9 pack but none of those BUFFs will fly well.

Haha, I try them to be not only SSTO's!! And it's only because I've been at it, learning from the best here, for a long time .

By the way, I finally found the time to design a proper lander for Project Phoebus, it's increased part count a bit (225vs200), but I think the amazingly improved looks make up for it:

g7w676O.png

Once testing is (we hope) successfully completed, I think this qualifies Project Phoebus as a success, considering the goal was to get a fraction of the looks of, say, Munbug, with a fraction of the part count for those of us with potato computers, sacrificing none of the realism in the process (I've got to mess with staging a bit more, but the CM is supported by the fairing, for example). But you'll be the judge, once I complete the ongoing mission and actually post the stuff.

Rune. In other words, a couple of weeks at this rate ^^'.

That's looking great, can't wait to see the finished product! :D

Thought I'd just drop by and say hi, with my most recent Duna orbiter/lander mission. :D

"And we have liftoff of the K-33 Atlantis on SLS-12 carrying the Mk1 pack bound to Duna, to explore it's vast Kethane deposits... blah blah blah..."

Atlantis has touched down after successful delivery of it's 12th payload to orbit. Hell of a record, eh?

GOOD GOD MAN Those are awesome! I see what KSP can really make with builders like you!

Here's a link to fun pic of one of my early day fudged mun landings (Imgur wasn't working directly for some reason):

Tipped mun lander

In the end the buggy worked well as a ramp and I got Gerbles back home safe :)

Well done Rune!

It's coming along, I think this weekend I'll re-post it in the thread I did for Project Phoebus, and I'll also link it here and in the stock repository as usual. Hope you enjoy it!

ohmygosh i love that lander! It's perfect!

<steals design>

Hahaha. Can't say I didn't steal it earlier, it's my take on a LEM after seeing countless of others, especially the various Munbug iterations. ;)

Awesome! I swear the best part of uploading stuff is when you get to see someone else having fun with it. Glad you like it!

Thanks! And don't sweat it, most of my skill was earned after catching some inspiration off the work of the awesome people in this forum. Well, and more than a couple of hours lost in the VAB/SPH...

You'll be doing awesome things yourself in no time! And that little Mun outpost doesn't look half bad, once you short out the "slight shuttle issues" we've all had at one time or the other. I mean, the last test lander of Project Phoebus forgot its legs somewhere between TLI and Munar orbit insertion ^^'.

Rune. Crashere kerbalum est.

Update! Project Phoebus has finally made an appearance here, substituting the very old Dres V. I mean, Dres was actually a pretty new thing back then I think... ^^'

Rune. No moldy ships, please!
