Cupcake's Dropship Dealership...

Damn it! :( Anyway, I think you're putting my piloting skills to shame, with my own craft as well! :sticktongue: Here's hoping more people take up the sport.

Actually, I can't really Minmussate better than you. Half of my runs end with an explosion, and in the other half I maintain about 10 meters above the ground. I sure as heck couldn't do it without the UI (for very long), and couldn't do it at such distant camera angles (without fantastic luck).

Heh all,

A video may be a few weeks away yet, but I figured it would be nice to let you guys have a bit of a play and let me know if I've missed anything. I'm quite proud of this new version of the Moth and in my opinion it really outclasses the original in every way. While the old model used the heavy NCIS adapter to offset the mass of the cockpit, this new edition has a bespoke crafted tail section consisting of more useful things like RTGs, and batteries while still retaining the parachute of the previous version. DV is around 8,500m/s and the craft can be used on Minmus, Gilly, Pol, Bop and Ike (with some fuel reduction).

Another big change is the cargo port which let's you trick out your Moth with all manner of bling, or even indulge in a spot of base building!

Also, did I mention drop pods?

Sweet, let me know how you get on with it! I've been playing round with the Drop Pods and seeing what other goodies I can stuff into them.

The previous structural nosecone was a nice looking part, but you managed to replace it good job. ;)

And good idea for landing vertically cargo bays, the decouplers looks very cool with lightings however the adapter that looks similar is 4 times lighter. (adtp-2-3)

Is it re'entry shields on the tip?

Thanks man! Tell me which adapter were you taking about? I may have missed it. :P Oh, and in answer to your question they are indeed re-entry shields. They look pretty cool and I figured they could come in handy if you were sending some Moths to the Jool system.

Sure, I meant the NCS Adapter, former structural nosecone, that you used in the first Moth if I remember correctly, and it looked nice back then on this particular craft, I'm feeling kinda nostalgic for some parts that are gone now lol.

Pretty cool! Those drop pods remind me a bit of my base packaging system... and remind me that I probably chose the wrong landing orientation. Hum... you might have given me ideas there.

Rune. How hard would it be to tip over on purpose, and survive?

Sorry man, I meant the adaptor to go from MK3 to the big Nasa parts. I'll have a play around with them as they may well work better then the de-couplers I'm currently using. :)

Download for this?

I don't think it's ready for public consumption quite yet, still needs more tweaking I'm afraid. :(

Funnily enough I was planning on using horizontal orientation but I found I couldn't fit the ship in properly so had to go vertical instead. Tipping them over on landing may not be a good idea, they seem to be pretty fragile, especially when loaded with cargo. :P

Hello Cupcake!

I've been away from the forum for so long - and it looks like much has changed in KSP.

The new Toad and Tadpole Mk2 designs look fantastic, as well as the new Moths.

Good to see that Cupcake designs are still insta-downloads - gonna have some fun with those drop-pods! :D

I little part of me silently weeps though for the loss of the old Tadpole/Minnow designs - Such a classic silhouette that appears so much in my old game screenshots. They will be remembered, always.

Still, time waits for no Kerbal (wait, there's a pause function?!) so it's onwards and ever upwards... and then east a bit... then upwards again!

I need to find out how much licking this Toad can take! Wait, what?

But cupcake, my Base-In-A-Box payloads all have legs that can cushion pretty heavy impacts! I've got to try this tomorrow, I might have found the new third deployment system for the 50mT, long payload bay packages, that plays a bit better with aerodynamics (Duna, Laythe) without a gazillion drag chutes and doesn't require the careful balancing act I was making.

Rune. Just a careful balancing act to get them to clear the bay without explosions. We'll see.

Cupcake landers does not condone toad licking no matter how enlightening and/or entertaining it is. :sealed: That aside, it's lovely to see you again! :D I hope the new Tadpole manages to meet your exacting standards, and if not I've got a feeling the original should still work, it really is the ship that refuses to die! :wink: There's also a download for the new Moth a few pages back if you fancy a sneak peak of the new model. Apart from that I guess the only major news is the SSTO fleet is no more, struck down by the engine nerf in 1.0. ;.;

Yeah. Landing gear. I should probably stop trying to land on the heat shields then.

Yes, the old girl does still fly - but she'll never be top-of-the-line again. ;.;

Some internal components are now sticking through the hull, or have otherwise slightly shifted position.

The balance has gone way off, and for some reason the bell nozzle of the engine clips and flutters like a Sim that's drunk too much coffee.

never-the-less...

Ok, with the new "Minmus Racing" Sport, I will use a Moth.

This will be fun!

Also, Cupcake..., is there a chance you could put the Moths on the front page?

1km/s, TWR>1, chutes, airbrakes and heatshield... this thing can drop stuff anywhere. Except Tylo. :(

Rune. But that moon requires special treatment anyway.

Just watch the solar panels when you're scraping along the ice! :D BTW I put a new version of the Moth in the download folder with a few little tweaks. I've also combined the drop pods with the basic craft file as there's no point having them seperate.

I was gonna put the Moth on the front page once I have a chance to shoot a video for it.

Wow, looking good man! My only suggestion would be to put the solid rockets on the other end so you can right the drop pod and "dispose" of it in a fitting (explosive) manner!

Yeah, I briefly thought about that. Then I realized all the heavy equipment was at that end, and it would take twice as many separatrons to get enough torque. In any case, my base pack already provides a lot of litter to clear from the tracking station (or with explosives if you use KIS!) when you decouple the extra legs from the corridors.

Rune. It's shaping up to be the most reliable deployment method.
