Duna. With an over-engineered rocket so huge that I entered the atmosphere with an almost full big orange tank attached to a tiny rover... which flipped over at the first attempt to drive it...

Eve. I was counting on the thick atmosphere to make the descent nice and easy with parachutes.

I did not have the deltaV map back then so had no idea how to know if I would have enough fuel to get my probe to Duna or any other objects AND land.

I then bounced to it's moon and went towards the sun one object after another before turning towards Duna and the outer bodies.

Having to decelerate as much as I had to taught me a lot of great lessons which has made the outer planets WAY easier to deal with.

I went Duna, then Minmus and Mun (in one flight), and then Ike. I did a few more trips to each of those four, mostly to test out my refueling landers, before I started my Grand Tour, a.k.a. Jeb's Wild Ride, where Jeb walked on every body in the system bar Jool itself and the sun.

But I'll always have fond memories of that first Duna mission, when I risked stranding Jeb in the middle of nowhere. Looking back, I realize how badly I botched the whole orbit, and the design was definitely not very efficient, but I'm still amazed I succeeded, given that my only previous attempt to go anywhere had been a crash on Mun.

Duna in 0.17, did it with style too using a mothership and a lander, the lander turned out to be so capable I ended up doing a Duna + Ike double landing without refuelling before returning both ships to Kerbin.

My first probe orbiter was launched to Duna but due to unfortunate solar panel placement and allignment ran out of power on the way (made it to the Duna SOI but couldn't burn to get an orbit). Six months later when the sun was shining on the right spot I ended up going to Eve.

My first (and only for quite a while) kerbal to leave the Kerbin SOI was when I took Jeb to Gilly (because anywhere my ion-powered mapsat can land looks fun).

After countless trips to the Mun, my first real planet was Duna. I feel like I almost cheated, though. I barely had any fuel left and the only reason I survived was because of the huge number of parachutes on my ship. Thank goodness Duna has an atmosphere.

I have this odd philosophy that if it's a one-way mission, then it should be a probe, and if it's a round trip mission it must be Kerbals, and it must be the 3-seat pod. I think I've only used the one-man pod during demonstration flights for friends.

That's the exact opposite of what I do. I now have two kerbals stuck on Mun and another two on Eve. It's not intentional, I just manage to mess up like that.

I totally agree, it's so much more fun that way! However, the only way I've managed to get a kerbal to Eve was by using a one-way vehicle... I'll bring him home when I develop a vehicle that can do it xD Other than that, it's always either a three-man mission or a drone.

First one was five minutes ago on Duma I didn't land the capsule strait up and it was a one way trip for my kerbal but a well I got here. It was easier than I expected I still had half a tank of fuel left and I was only useing the skinny black and what striped tank with a Nuc engine. Thought I'd share that.
