The Drawing Board: A library of tutorials and other useful information

Apologies for being out of the loop lately; some personal matters came up that took a little time for me to resolve.

So as you all can probably guess, the fact that the official release came with a number of changes to the flight model means that a large number of once-valuable resources will need to be reevaluated. I'll probably be spending the next few weeks going through the list to see what's still helpful and what's now out of date. In particular, I'm expecting that most (if not all) resources to do with aerodynamics and atmospheric actions are going to need a very careful look. I'll also continue to be on the lookout for new tutorials and reference material as well, particularly to replace the outdated stuff.

That said, I'm not exactly a subject matter expert on every aspect of the inner workings of the game myself, so if anyone has any recommendations (whether for the list in general or to alert me to a new tutorial in particular), don't be afraid to mention it to me :)

Wow! A nice overdose of information for any excited newcomer, like me.

It is a tremendous work, and now a rework, you are doing!

I am more than willing to help you in the revision of what you collected, at first.

Real life is a matter for everyone, so i won't try to set any ambitious schedule.:)

Hey, first step.

The DMagic post has timeless hints, and they are extremely useful up to the 1.0.2 version.

The second link, leading to Scott Manley's video tutorials are outdated. But I found he created a new KSP for beginners, updated for 1.0.2.

He did not create a video playlist, but they start from this link:

Today, June 7th, there are 19 of them.

Maybe, we should ask him to create a playlist, just for the sake of someone's (mine)OCD's, hehe.:D

Another service announcement: I've managed to coerce recruit my fellow moderator Red Iron Crown to serve as my assistant in maintaining the list for the time being while my Internet situation is getting sorted out. For the time being, it may be more timely to submit recommendations via PM to him rather than me (although I'll still be taking them, and will work on them when I can). And, as always, feel free to continue posting recommendations here in the thread if you prefer.

well it hasn't managed to find its way in here on its own after a year so I will self nominate A Basic Guide for Mission Planning and Rocket Construction

That's a good tutorial, Gaiiden, but it's a bit out of date. You should really update the dV to orbit requirement and make some mention of the thrust scaling in atmo, then I'd be happy to add it. :)

Not sure what thrust scaling has to do with anything I talk about. It's not a tutorial about actually flying the rocket, just building it. I mention TWR briefly as just an example of further considerations when preparing for launch, but it's not a focus here. I will make the Dv adjustments tho.

Adjustments made, just a change of ÃŽâ€v chart image and re-wording of the following paragraph, where I briefly mention the change in ascent requirements that should be considered. If you have any specific references you think I should include, let me know

Shameless plug incoming...

If you could add my tutorial on landing off the runway to the drawing board that would be awesome. :)

I'm just going to post this again because it seems to have been forgotten in the maintenance transition, also because I got stickied, yay!

Gaiiden, peachoftree, I've added your tutorials to the list, well done.

Gaiiden, wrt the thrust scaling it was in reference to you showing vacuum stats in your screenshots, which used to be sufficient but now can bite a player TWR-wise. It's still a good and useful tutorial, just something you might consider mentioning.

Is there a good tutorial for MechJeb?

The official manual is about all there is. Someone said they were going to re-write and update it but then ragequit the forums for a while.

Oh yeah, that was me ... (not likely to happen this year, but I'll get myself in gear once the tutorials on KSP itself are written).

Again, my apologies for not keeping up with the Drawing Board like I used to.  Life has had a funny habit of throwing me all sorts of interesting curveballs lately.  That said, hopefully people continue to find this a helpful and useful resource :)

Is someone going to go through and confirm that all of the links are still valid since the forum migration?

The links to individual threads should work fine. If you (or anyone else) finds a link that doesn't work please report it here.

Every link in the OP's table of contents is invalid. Most every video tutorial is for an obsolete version of KSP and don't reflect any recent changes to the physics or new parts making it annoying, or in some cases impossible to follow along or replicate.

@zKrieg The table of contents relied on the old goto tags from vB, you're right that they won't work now. I'll remove those links. I haven't had a chance to review the video tutorials (I'm more of a written tutorial guy), if you share your notes on which ones are no longer valid I can remove deprecated ones or note what is inaccurate.

Nearly every link or video is outdated. There are videos for versions of KSP as far back as 0.19. Some links that do work reference threads that haven't been updated in nearly three years.

I'm sorry I just don't have the time to check the hundreds of links in the OP but thus far every link and video I have clicked is invalid or outdated.
