The Drawing Board: A library of tutorials and other useful information

I'd like to propose a TL;DR Kerbin launch fuel efficiency reference, something along these lines:

A fuel efficiency reference for launching from Kerbin to low Kerbin orbit

For a given rocket, using less fuel means using less delta-v.

For a 74km orbit the record stands at 4333m/s delta-v:

Anything near 4400m/s can be considered "good".

Rule-of-thumb required delta-v for LKO is 4500m/s (can be considered "not bad"), which gives you a safety margin and in most cases should be enough to get you into an orbit a bit higher than 74km.

Mechjeb can provide detailed delta-v readouts and can provide decent control over the ascent path.

See elsewhere for help with designing a rockt capable of fuel efficient launch.

Does this library have info on mods? Or is it just mostly stock? I have a small problem, I have been trying to figure out travel times between the planets since I use life support mods. I understand that times depend on launch windows, but if I had an idea of what the times are with with optimal launch window, that should give me a mean time to use as a rule of thumb. Thank you for any help.

Try this for size: http://alexmoon.github.io/ksp/

Just running it with default values for any destination will usually give you two or three transfer windows to choose from. The y-axis lists travel time in days.

Is it in earth or Kerbal time, and thanks for the link, will check it out when I get home, my windows phone doesn't like the drop down menu on the site for the planets.

There's a radio button to set for 6h or 24 h days, so it works regardless of which you want, just make sure it's set to what you want, results get strange if you leave it alone since it defaults to 6h in game and 24h on that web site.

[nervously pokes head into thread]

Hey, I'm thinking of revamping my docking tutorial. I never got the Asteroid Redirect Mission bit done, and I feel guilty. Also, the new rendezvous missions in .24.2 could be covered. I'll include better navball explanations and reveal some of my stock-docking tricks I've learned, including misaligned-thruster docking, limited thrusters, and main-engine-only docking.

Do we still have n00bz looking for docking help? (Sorry, that's a little harsh. Even I've had problems with docking sometimes.)

I just found a young man learning to play on steam chat. I plan on sharing this thread with him when he gets back on. I would also like to see you new videos. I'm not a noob, I have made manned landings on Ike and Duna, I just haven't gotten much other than that done. I'm working on a refueling station, and docking kills me, as I overshoot three or four times before I finally get it.

Apologies for the backlog of unaddressed posts. I'm just coming back from a little week-long forum break.

Feel free to share whatever you've come up with for scrutiny :)

Glad to hear :) I'll see what I can do about adding new videos to the list; admittedly I've been getting a bit lax on searching for them lately. As always, if anyone has made something or sees something that someone else made that they feel might be worth my time, feel free to drop me a line, either in this thread or via PM.

Thank you for not being intimidating at all!

It may take a while... but I'm planning near-complete coverage of everything from craft design (Fuel efficiency vs. cost in the new .24.2 system) to orbital profiles (e.g. docking to a polar craft (or an asteroid on an inclined orbit)).

We shall see...

And here's the outline of the reconstructed tutorial. I have a brand-new format for this one, which I don't believe has been attempted before.

Craft Construction

Navball Basics

Flight Basics

Orbital Mechanics and Maneuver Nodes

Rendezvous

Docking and RCS Tutorial

Rendezvous and Docking from Launch

Inclined Orbit 01

Inclined Orbit 02

Elliptical Orbit 01

Elliptical Orbit 02

Asteroid Training 01

Asteroid Training 02

Asteroid on Flyby Trajectory

Asteroid on Impact Trajectory

Extreme Scenario 01 - 2 Thruster Docking

Extreme Scenario 02 - Misaligned Thruster Docking

Extreme Scenario 03 - No Thruster Docking

I've set up about 50% of the tutorial at this time. I'm going to put up some previews up in its official thread a few days before release.

EDIT:

:(

I was trying to edit the .sfs file for a part of the tutorial and had the brilliant idea to set the eccentricity value (ECC) to 1.

The Hell Kraken ate all of my KSP.

:(

Oh, well. I hadn't really gotten underway yet with the hard bits.

Not sure if you want to wade into this but issue on your sticky but I made a tutorial for win64 users. I think it would go here: Mod-Related (Creating, Installing, Using, Modded Ship Designs) here is a link, if you like, feel free to share. http://forum.kerbalspaceprogram.com/threads/99485-General-tutorial-for-removing-WIN64-KSP-Denial-of-access-code-from-mods

This question has probably been asked and answered many times, but I can't find the solution. Also all of the recommendations i find doesn't work.

My question is when in the VAB how do I zoom in and out? I am on a mac btw not on steam. Outside the VAB i can zoom in and out just fine but not inside. Am i pressing something wrong or is it a glitch. I'm playing the most recent version just started playing again. Any tips or info would be greatly appreciated.

The plus and minus keys on the numeric keypad are the default keys for zooming. If you are on a laptop that obviously won't work, so you can set different keys for it in the Settings screen (I use -/=, but it's up to you).
