Enjoy!

Prologue

LKO

-Burtley, I've finished setting up the tin can.

Ul1VMup.png

-Okay... Harv, can you move that separator part on your way back to the ship?

Harvin floats over to the tiny separator and throws it like a discus. He turns to a camera floating in orbit and picks it up.

-Can we tell the country about our...

-We can't. They aren't hearing our radio broadcast.

Harvin improvises and looks around in the sky for Minmus. He points to himself and Burtley through the window, and then at Minmus.

-Just a few more months, Burtley. Too bad Director Meurral won't be there to see it.

-Oh, hush. He's just retiring. He can still see the launch and all.

-I suppose you're right.

Harv looks back at Minmus

-Just a few more months..

Epilogue: Here.

The Odysseus is not my ship. It is RogueMason's for his AAR. All I did was reference it.

Chapter 1

Launch Pad, Aurora Space Association

NYKrGDv.jpg

-Burtley and Harvin, we hope you a good flight. T-60

54 seconds later. The boys fire the engines.

-5,4,3,2,1.. liftoff of the Horizon, heading to Minmus.

The Horizon shoots off of the pad, making Harv and Burt shake.

-IiiIiIii'M gOOoOing to kIiIiLL those engin-EeeEeers......

agfWQH4.jpg

After a whole ton of shakes, the stage is ejected and the ride isn't so bumpy anymore. Harvin starts up the radio.

-Mission Control, do you read me?

-This is Kurt, reporting in.

-Kurt! You lovable bastard. He chuckles. Tell your engineers that they need to add more struts!

-Oh, now you are sounding like Jeb!

They all chuckle.

-Lets talk when we get this into orbit, shall we?

Some time later

-This is Harv. We have achieved orbit.

-Roger that. We'll call when your transfer window is open.

-Alright.

The radio buzzes out.

-I miss Jeb..

-I would have loved to meet him. At least I got to meet my idol, Bobbald.

-Oh, don't remind me of that story. Kod knows what happened that day.

-What happened to Jebediah, exactly?

-Parachute failure...

Burtley looks out the window.

-Oh...

-Lets talk about something besides death. Which one of us will go into the lander?

The two look at each other, and immediately play SRB, Kracken, Jebediah. Burtley pulls a Jebediah while Harvin pulls Kracken.

-Ha! Jebediah beats all!

-This is a lousy game....

Chapter 2

LKO

-Harvin and Burtley, your transfer window is open. I repeat, your transfer window is open.

The radio, which Harv turned up before taking a nap, wakes him up.

-Roger that. Burtley, wake up.

He leans over and wakes Burtley up.

-It's time to transfer.

-Oh... okay....

-You know what will make you wake up?

-What?...

Harv quickly raises the throttle to 100%

-Awake now?

-That's a pointless question.

-Mission Control, this is Harvin. We have completed our transfer.

There is no answer.

-Uh, Mission control?

The radio picks.

-Hello boys.

-Who am I speaking to?

-This is the president. I know who you are.. Harvin and Burtley.

The two smile widely at being able to speak to the president.

-I'm not at mission control, by the way. You can get to talk to your technical do-hickey person soon. Anyways, you two do me proud.

-We will, sir.

-What Harv said.

Some time later

The ship enters Minmus's SOI.

-We should perform a system check, Harvin.

-I suppose you are right. This game of charades is getting boring.

Harvin checks out the system. Nothing is working. He checks the generator, and turns to Burtley, scared.

-The ship has no power.

Chapter 3

Minmus' SOI

-Frak.. Give me the toolbox. I'm looking at the generator. Can you go on EVA while I do this? You should have enough oxygen to last you quite a while.

They both put on their helmets while Harvin exits the pod. After the oxygen fills up the ship, Burtley gets to work on the generator.

-This is Harv, tuning in.

-I hear you loud and clear. I see no visual problems with the generator. Let me look under these gears.

Burtley disassembles the generator. He finds a strange computer chip along with a little capsule of gas.

-Harv, I think somebody is... out to kill us.

-What are you talking about?

Burtley slips his helmet on.

-Just come see this thing..

Harvin enters the pod. They both look at the contents.

-Burtley, we have to get home.

-I know. All we have is the side generator for life support, which only has enough power for the littlest of things.

-Can it deploy parachutes?

-Well... yes, but we don't have a way to get back.

-Hmm... can you give me that drill?

-What are you going to do?

-Just put your helmet on and trust me, Harv.

-If you say so. I just want to get back where we have gravity.

-I'm sure the guys on the Odysseus are saying that over by Jool..

Burtley exits the pod and goes over to the payload fairings. He positions the drill where the tiny explosives, that jetison the fairings, are and start drilling. Once he gets a fair way into it, he leaves it running and jetpacks away. The fairing is bursted off.

ZP2af5L.png

-Holy hell, what did you do?

-Just saved us.

Before Harvin could reply, Burtley is piggy-backing the ship with the lander.

-Burtley, you're a genius!

-How do you think I got this job?

-We're going home!

Hours later

HZw9lXo.png

-Entering the atmosphere...

-It's pretty dark out.

-Oh, you're about to see a light show, alright. Just................about..................

-Cheater..

-Now!

cDWCiIL.png

Flames engulf the pod and soon are gone.

-We can deploy the chutes now.. Moment of truth?

-Moment of truth, Burtley.

The parachuted deploy.

-Woohoo!

The two make it to land, by the coast.

-We must be the first astronauts to have to land on... land.

-I'm not sure.

qGjNWeM.png

-Well... now what?

-We play the waiting game.... I'm sure somebody had to see us.

-Hmm.

Chapter 4

2 days later at the Aurora Space Association offices

Harvin and Burtley enter Director Halsey's office.

-Why isn't it the two men who escaped death!

-Thankfully.

-Harvin, can you leave for a moment? I must speak with Burtley in private.

-Oh, okay. I'll be outside.

Harvin leaves the room.

-Burtley, I must award you with this..

Director Halsey hands him a medal of honor.

-..For your quick thinking in one of the program's darkest moments.

Burtley smiles.

-It means very much to me.. Thank you sir. I hate to start something, but I found this computer chip and bottle of some gas in the ships generator. We think someone attempted to kill us.

-Hmm..

-Director Halsey, who was the last person to enter the ship during construction?

-Well, Kurt, of course. Wait a second... now that I think about it, I've seen him with a container of material like that before.. We should go question him.

Kurt enters the door.

-Ah, Kurt. We needed to talk to you.

-There won't be much questioning..

Kurt pulls a pistol from his lab coat, aiming it at both Halsey and Burtley. A worker sees the gun pulled and yells for the guards.

-Ah, we can question you in jail.

-I'm going to kill you first, Burtley.. Like you were supposed to. You're going down the same road Bobbald and Sidrod went.

Kurt cocks his pistol. Two guards come behind him with guns loaded.

-Freeze, dirtbag!

Kurt puts his hands up. He puts his gun down slowly. The guards handcuff Kurt.

-Have fun in jail, Kurt.

Epilogue

Kurt was soon arrested for many charges. If his plan worked the second time, the gas would have filled the capsule and killed both of the men after brief insanity. Years ago, the substance was placed by Kurt into Bobbald's breakfast before his and Sidrod's launch, resulting in their deaths.

Burtley was given the program's medal of honor publicly and was chosen to command a mining expedition in the near future. Hint, hint. This phase of the story is finished, but this is just the start.

I hope you all thought it was good. Sorry for another abrupt ending... I had to tie up loose ends with The Lunar Incident. And the only way to tie up an abrupt ending was to have another abrupt ending. Ugh..

Anyways, I'd like to take this time to thank the FASA fairings for letting my kerbal walk right through them ("Drill through") and get to the lander to break them off. You fairings rock.

somewhat anticlimatic ending, but as you said, it ties it up nicely, lets just hope you don't repeat it for round three.

With Kurt in jail and all that, there will be no more mention of "The Lunar Incident". I won't start the new one until I have everything planned and working. For some reason KSP wants to start bugging out in the middle of my AARs.

I know what you mean, I was working on my jool transfer burn and already had my eve lander in transfer, and when I went to go to the eve lander the kraken attacked and sent it to a black hole, and the quick save was before my transfer burn, 2k delta v with a ship that took eight minutes to complete... Not fun.

This ship would explode when I changed between objects in space. My kerbal's jetpacks were bugging out, spinning him around wildly.

I like how your AARs aren't all happiness and sunshine, bad stuff actually happens. Most of the time, everything goes according to plan, and that's no fun! :D

Thanks! I won't be expecting anything horrid to happen in the next AAR. Actually, the next one won't be mining. It will just be an interplanetary voyage to land on another planet... I think. Though the mission won't end in disaster, everything won't be all sunshines and rainbows.
