@Triop .-. dude. Are you still trying to get what's his face up that mountain? Yikes.

May I suggest adding a tiny rocket fuel tank + fuel cell + that tiny radial engine?  Could help you up that cliff face.

I've been thinking about that option, but I think I would crash it.

The electric wheels can do the job, we just need more power.

Some parts of the mountain are very steep and long, when I then run out of power I'll be sliding down . . .

Maybe there are people who want to try it themselves ?

I have the coordinates if you like to try.

So far so good, if I don't panic 'n drive WHN's buggy can make it.

Second that - couple of years back with the Kerbal Dakar Challenge, I ultimately had to strap on a pair of LF boosters to my vehicle to get over the mountains in the second leg. Only thing that worked.

If nothing else, the engine keeps your car from sliding down too far while the batts recharge. Worth considering.

WHN could do with increasing the traction or friction thing a magig in the advanced settings for the wheels... but thats a SPH only thing. You could also go full tank treads and just spam some wheels on.

I'm doing this stock, no mods installed what so ever (I even don't allow me to F5)

I do adjust the wheels settings as I go, right now my brakes are set 200

I admit I'm obsessed with this contract, but it's so much fun !

Idk man.. those wheels are pretty light at .05 tons each... You could skip the tank part and just put em on the current rover.

I would suggest an orbital insertion missile style.

But it's your mission, you do you =P

Uhh I threw kerbin into the sun.

Let's say he (m/f/x) was the first of his kind to land on the sun.

Sounds more positive ^_^

Edit: O Kerbin not Kerbal ?

HOW ?

Departed Laythe, transferred the crew to the transfer vehicle, did a fly-by tour of the Jool system, then when I tried to dock with the Laythe station to refuel before the Kerbin return window, RCS wouldn't work - used up monoprop, but no thrust & no visual effect.   Reloaded the game, docked, refueled then undocked, set up a return maneuver in a few days.  Then tried to dock a different craft & RCS stopped working again.  I think I'm done with 1.4+ for a while.  Gonna go back to 1.3.1

Update:  Ok, so with more mods in 1.3.1, it loaded faster.  And RCS works.  And fairings work.

Hmm.

Different games, different ways.  I keep looking at that mountain and thinking how fast I could drive up it in my Solid Pine Buggy in There.

And then I remember that buggy can also fall from the edge of space without damage, can climb a 75 degree slope at above 100 km/hr, and drive 400+ km/hr on the ocean.  Used to be faster (above 550 km/hr) before they put a meter of water on the smooth blue concrete ocean floor...

Okay, on topic:

Last time I played (couple days ago) I launched a mission to carry tourists to the Mun, and fulfill a couple other contracts, while waiting for the first Duna flyby crew (in this save) to return home (they were 230 days from their correction burn on the return trip when the Mun mission launched -- prompted by realizing a test contract would expire before they got home).  I hope they'll be okay; I remembered after they entered Duna's SOI that I used an existing launcher with extra boosters and a larger upper stage tank -- and it has only 60% of the ablator (the other 40% removed to save launch mass, since it's redundant on Minmus return).

Now, Minmus return at around 3000 m/s still only burns about half the 480 units of ablator.  Maybe I can bring them in below 3500 m/s if I can get a Mun assist.  Or maybe I can make a couple aerobrake passes with the transfer stage still attached.  There has to be a way to get them back safely.
