What did you do in KSP1 today?

Let's see... I added habitation modules to my station (new pic when it's complete. )... then one of my interplanetary windows opened up. I've had probes in parking orbits for weeks, so I was excited to finally send one on its way. Well, when I began the burn, the probe began tumbling wildly. Come to find out, the goo container unbalanced it severely. All my probes were useless. :(

So, now I'm in the process of rebuilding the probes (I should have done so anyway as I have more instrumentation now) and lifting them back to orbit.

With the window open, I sent my first interplanetary probe. ...to Dres. :0.0:

Decided to go ahead and start braving the frontier of spaceplane design. Am learning that generating lift is trickier than it looks...my designs so far can take off but not before they reach the end of the runway and once they're off they don't climb worth a good fart.

Will probably go back to rockets soon.

Last night I performed a rendevous and docking maneuver using no autopilots (just informational stuff and node editing) - from low kerbin orbit to a station orbiting the mun at 50km altitude. I did utilize an alignment indicator (strongly suggest you get that...) however.

Dude, docking isn't so hard as it looks.I'll really make a video about it when I get a new computer

I know, I just got doing it. I'd still suggest the indicator, though. There's docking, and then there's perfect docking.

Abso-flippin-LUTELY!

Love the heck out of that plugin. I can make straight in and slot in like it was cool (because it is) every single time without waiting an eternity for the vessels to settle back down afterward. :D

I was doing the same thing. I've occasionally played with planes in the past, but discovered building a good one requires a completely different skill set from building rockets, a skill set I didn't possess. Wanting to try out RAPIER engines made me give spaceplane design another shot, and by the end of the night, and about 20 iterations later (c/w test flights and dead/stranded Jebs), I actually managed to get my first SSTO into LKO with enough fuel left that I might be able to land it again, too. That'll be tonight's goal.

Yeah, docking with the navball only is easy enough once you get the hang of it, but Navyfish's mod is very useful for getting perfect alignment on 3 dimensions at great distances.

After an age I finally got my Kethane/Ore drills onto the perfect Goldilocks's zone of both Kethane and Ore on the Mun. Thus the first part of my Byzantium Solar Station project is complete. And then the next part can begin. Getting the infrastructure to manufacture rocket parts right there on the Mun.

attempted to launch the science lab ,but with 1 meter parts since i did not research 2 meter parts.Lets say it can not leave the atmosphere under it's own wait with SRB's that can burn forever. So now planning a scince mission to get 2 meter parts.

R.A.I.P.E.R. Engine flight testing. Built 2 aircraft/space crafts for the new engine. Elf-1 (E1) and Elf-2 (E2). Elf-1 took off at 77m/s flew nice. Landed at the abandon airport and back at KSP1 on the runway coasting up to the hanger. Later flight obtained 41K altitude at about 45 degree angle and flew 1/4 around Kerbin. Not bad.

Elf 2 took off about 95 m/s. Made orbit by assent angle of about 20 degrees until the oxidizer kicked in. Low orbit of 70-80K until deorbit with a successful landing. a good days work for Jedediah.

A nice little engine :-)

Continued my misadventures with spaceplanes this evening. Referenced The Drawing Board for the first time - I figured some of the folks there would know what they were talking about. Attempted to apply their principles; still didn't design a plane that would take off before it reached the end of the runway, though I did get one up to 25,000 and almost orbital velocity. Might've made it had I assigned my twin rocket engines to fire simultaneously. Flat spin and out. Luckily I'd added an ejection system so Thomemy lived to crash again.

Learned that raising the gear before take off is a bad idea. Barely had time to eject on that one...

EDIT: Have had success since my last post. Even managed to land it on the runway intact afterwards, at night and without proper ground markers (wasn't in my main save game).

Can't do anything serious yet since the Eve thing, so I finally got around to making my own flag and replaced the runway marker flags.

After planting the flags, Jeb decided to take the "short" way home.

Got to give him credit since he re-entered just right for a completely unpowered landing at KSC. May have been luck.

Evacuated all Kerbals from Mun and Minmus since I have sucked the science dry on these two moons. Somehow I feel obliged to rescue them home after their tasks finished. As a professional topographic surveyor myself, one of the best part in each project is when I'm preparing to go home, especially from projects in remote locations in the middle of nowhere.

Back to KSP, I have unveiled all the tech tree in career mode, and now time to venture to other planets beyond Duna and Eve. Not sure what to do with the surplus science points though.

Senior Kerbalnaut Bill returned from a highly successful one-man science expedition to Ike complete with a surface landing. Vehicle was single launch from Kerbin to Ike and back, stock parts. Bill even managed to softly splash down off the coast of KSC, retaining many valuable science points.

I messed up an attempt to put an orbiting lab with lander and crew around the Mun. I get both halves into Kerbin orbit so I can dock them together then realise that I hadn't checked the docking ports after improving my Minmus lab design for this Mun mission.

Now I'm stuck in Kerbin orbit, unsure of how to proceed.

EDIT - I sent up a second lander and probe so I could balance the whole craft before I sent it to the Mun, but that last stage behind the second lander is full to the brim with delicious fuel. I'm not sure if I should use that fuel and send everything to the Mun in two halves, or dump the delicious fuel and just go in one trip as originally planned. There's no docking port on that fuel tank so I can't even park it in orbit for future use.

After many attempts (and failures), I finally got the fuel sections on my space station. :D Now to man it. Here's my 18-Kerbal Rocket Bus, en route to the station. The pods are actually "escape vehicles" in case of a needed evacuation. All six will detach from the "bus" and dock with the station.

Right now the bus is orbiting Kerbin about halfway to the station. Tomorrow I'll bring it up and get my station fully manned. :D
