After a cursory look at this thread, I notice I never posted pics of my Base-In-a-Box thingy here! Well, let's fix that, with a vengeance. Pics away!

This is the package:

And these are some of the things I've built using it...

...Mostly using Eagles to deliver each module to the surface. Reusability FTW!

This is the first one I made, quite a while ago now...

Each Y shaped section can be decoupled and moved using the small rovers.

I did have a mobile science outpost/lab that could attach to the base too but I can't seem to find any pictures of that one.

Holy crap. That's amazing! I wish I had the fine construction skills to do that.

My favourite bit of that base is easily the umbrella.

From the Bases I have seen already mine is pretty lame but i just started yesterday so who knows how it will end up.

Oh, piffle! You managed to actually build a base out of multiple components, which is more than I've managed to do (or get around to) in my 3-odd years playing KSP. And you have done it in a single day. Well done, sir. :)

Daaammmnnnn... all of these bases are awesome!

I have been using KSP for a few day now. I am orbiting, docking, and landing on the Mun. I have a small station orbiting Kerbin, and small station orbiting Mun. I want to start building bases.

Is there a tutorial for building and landing bases?

I did the whole thing in one launch and assembled it in orbit.

...never again.

That rover has orbital capability and cost about half as much as the rest of the base together. I barely broke even on this mission, but it should save money in the long run if I get much more of those "take temperature scan at x site" contracts.

This Munmus base works excellently, the probes are able to reach any Minmus biome and return to the base. Future missions will include a rover and a larger supply of monopropellant.

It is simply called Minmus Base One

That is amazing! I have half a mind of building similar surface vehicles... the crane is just too awesome. Makes me a bit envious when I compare with my Base-In-A-Box, even tough I know my construction method is more robust. Those things look just too good!

Rune. Stealing ideas from the best since 0.17.

There are some real nice bases here! Heres a few of mine;

In order of appearance;

Lion Base on Laythe

Duna One Base on Eeloo (nah, kidding)

Procyon Base on Mun

Lion Base was inspired by a base done by Nimaci, as here: http://forum.kerbalspaceprogram.com/threads/58558-Planetary-bases. Using a 'drive under and lift' type rover, assembling the parts on Laythe was a lot of fun. Especially pleased with my Laythe Jet terminal. Part count is ridiculous though.

Procyon Base was the hardest as I had to launch it in one go as I couldn't get the structural strength I needed with docking ports. Pretty happy with my Munar shuttle landing pads!

Duna base was delivered all in one go but assembled on site using the front loading cranerover you can see in the pics. Think I found a pretty scenic spot.

A few shots of my just completed test base. Fully modular, assembled on site using 2 rovers in stock career (tech tree still isnt fully open). Original inspiration from Temstars modular base designs.

Part count - far too many - framerate is down to about 10fps :-)

Lessons learned : Make it smaller, use less parts, make more allowances on clearance for mass, Minmus is forgiving of mistakes if youre careful, rovers suck for delicate work - plus a few others.

Quite fun to put together, if a little painstaking.

Next challenge - refine the design and build one on the Mun.

Hope you enjoy!

Phase 2 - interconnections & power test

Phase 6 - finally manned& 2nd power module being slotted into place

Phase 8 - Delivering the Hab modules

Whoa that's big. Me, I've had too many problems with Sr. Docking ports, for some reason the regulars seemed to work better. I put together a small polar station to test my new pack version, BTW... Check out the new modules and the mechanism to get rid of the extra legs!

Rune. Next up, putting a bigger one on Mun.

Cheers folks!

That looks good Rune, I really like the use of shielded ports, may poach that :-)

I'm going to switch back to regular docks for the next iteration, and combine some functions - i.e make the Hab module a 3 way connector and the science module a 4 way, which only means an inline is needed, like yours above. Building that one was a great learning experience though.

Sure! These things are tons of fun, and you know, I also started learning from Temstar way back when he started making modular bases (so long ago now! The ones you saw are probably one of his last forum posts :().

Rune. Credit where credit is due!

Here is my first Mun base named Clavius Base

jNiwf4T.png

It is fully modular and has plenty of space for kerbals as well as mining capability

owugYmz.png

It also has a large amount of KIS storage

You can see the assembly rover in this image
