Mission 195: Negi Star Mk2 flight 01

After several decades, the successor to the Negi Star spaceplane is introduced. The Negi Star Mk2 doubles crew capacity from 8 to 16, and is powered by four aerospikes. It also conducts a ballistic re-entry and vertical landing using airbrakes and parachutes instead of gliding to a runway. The ship functions as a second stage, and launch system is now fully reusable for trips to the 500 km parking orbit. (Legs from Kerbal Reusability Expansion)

Mission 198: Negi Maru Append propulsion module 1

Mission 199: Negi Maru Append propulsion module 2

The Negi Maru was augmented with a new engine technology: the CCGC-7 Nuclear Lightbulb (part of Atomic Age, revived as part of SpaceTux Industries Recycled Parts). It is a closed-cycle gas core nuclear engine with a 1500-second specific impulse (compared to 800 seconds). Two propulsion modules provide the Negi Maru with over 15000 m/s of delta-v, allowing the vehicle to visit destinations like Moho, or the more distant outer planets (Urlum, Neidon, and Plock) in a reasonable timeframe.

Mass (each): 112500 kg

Launch vehicle: K-2

Total mass of Negi Maru Append: 411329 kg

I made a huge mistake: I didn't realize that Moho's day length was in fact, similar to its real life counterpart (in that it is really long). And I only brought solar panels for the lander, not RTGs. I will probably have to redo some of the missions.

Redoing the missions.

Y58, D55 (launch)

RTGs were installed on the Moho landers to provide power during the very long nights.

(note: the Delta-v is higher because I installed KIS fueling ports between the engine/tank modules, but I removed them just before the burn because they had poor structural integrity)

Not bad...in fact...excellent...though i kinda don't like that Moho transfer...though you have a tremendous amount of Delta V...but still...nice job...

It's the best I could do in one burn (instead of a separate transfer and plane change)

Nice...i like the overall execution...i hope that design of yours is enough to pull off a Grand Tour UC style...or maybe making a special Negi Maru for that task...

A grand tour would be redundant.

Okay, I'm back. I wanted to take a break from aerospace-related things.

Wait...this is the end of the Tachi Maru? What are you going to do with it, deorbit it? *sad*

It won't be de-orbited, it will be left in orbit around Ike.

WOOO! I eagerly await manned missions to the outer planets.

Question: do you plan to use any other packs?

No, I don't.
