Deepest Aerobrake

Im not sure if this has been attempted before...

But how deep can you get your craft into the atmosphere and get out enough to form a stable orbit.

Stock parts only.

eg

Apoapsis of 150,000,000m

Periapsis of 40,000m

After exiting atmosphere

Apoapsis of 500,000m /w a burn to form stable orbit.

I\'ve gotten to just under 30000. The way I did it was to fire up, turn and make orbit. Then just after Apoapsis carfully increase orbit speed but lower Periapsis, the aim is to have a excape trajectory going through a low altitude (You won\'t have an excape trajectory after the pass if you get the altitude just right). I don\'t have pictures but I could do it again.

Yeah i\'ve started this challenge before (and other people probably have too that i haven\'t noticed), but your explanation is much better than mine.

Lowest i got to was about 34000m from memory, but i don\'t have any screenshots of that one.

If you manage to hit the ground and get back out to some sort of orbit you deserve a multitude of medals....and a cookie.

You would have to be going really, really fast to go under 15 km and come out of it... alive...

I have hit orbital velocities with C7 at under 25k, but that\'s not quite the same thing.

I got through the atmosphere with a Peraphisis of 11k. Although it ripped my rear wings off. :u

I had a periapsis of about 30k from a Munar free return. It took three passes to finally enter.

Huh, 30km is my usual target periapsis for one-pass capture. Seems to work for anything near escape velocity.
