Is there a way to detach its focus from the absolute center of your craft? A TRUE free camera? Im trying to get an over the shoulder shot of my kerbal watching his planet drift away and im finding it quite impossible.

middle mouse button, it still follows your craft but not in the center.

There's a mod, I forget the exact name, Kerbal Cam or something like that. It's actually used to setup key points so you can do cinematic type camera movements, but I've used it for doing panoramas a few times. I'd imagine you could use it to do what you want as well, if the middle click doesnt do the trick.

I've used it in .20 and it seems to work fine for me. Takes some getting use to though, still trying to get the hang of it, but I don't use it often, yet anyway.

so the camera can follow different points of the ship but still not completely free floating? very interested in a stationary camera for ship fly-bys and good views of kerbal faces

I'd like to know this too. I don't use my laptop's trackpad, but my mouse doesn't have a middle mouse button, nor a clickable scroll wheel.

You can use a program called autohotkey to rebind controls on your keyboard very easily.

For example my Right Control key is mapped to my middle mouse button as i am using a trackball mouse

"Free" is one of the four camera settings you can advance through with the V key, giannis1996, or are you asking for one of the camera mods?
