Old 0.20 save debate: Please close, mods.

It goes with the territory when you buy an early access game.

this may be true for some, but you fail to realize the state of the world we live in today :P

Maybe add a pop up when the game starts the first time after updating, letting people know why the saves are broken. It would get around the enraged masses who aren't aware of what they've gotten into.

Question to the Developers:

I understand that persistence will break as the way the crew is managed will change. But are flags salvageable? As I'm ok with my stations.... being lost, but I really would like to know (with 51% confidence) if flags will be salvageable from .20 format saves?

The flags that are planted will be erased, as there will be new terrain (at least for the Mun), and those flags are attached to the save files. You will still be able to use the same flags for future missions, provided you copy the files over after updating

It should actually be relatively simple to copy flags from your old save into the new one. You just have to be careful they don't get buried under terrain changes.

I enjoy starting over from time to time... gives me a chance to change my strategy, infrastructure, style, and docking compatibility between craft.

And thus I have a reason to be glad that I'm still in the basic stages of this game and haven't built anything of consequence. My save being wiped out won't change a thing.

That's been true for me too, up until now. This being the first time I am losing anything of consequence is why I'm bummed. I'll get over it, but...

I'm thinking of using the save breaking as an chance to start a space program with various major mods (FA, Deadly Re-Entry, maybe a life support one) included from the beginning instead of adding them as I go along. I've already got plans for a very gradual start, much like the early days of flight and space travel here on Earth, so this is more an opportunity than disaster.

Ships will "work", as in, they will load. However, the behaviour of the SAS and command module has been changed, so you'll have to account for that.

Does this save breaking extend to saved ships, or can I bring those over manually?

Modded ships may not work, but stock designs can still be loaded. Whether they'll perform the same is a different matter.

I don't mind the saves breaking as I can start afresh. :D

Also i'll continue to be not surprised if they continue to break throughout Alpha and even through Beta. I just consider It good that the devs have released it at all. :P

I break saves with every update, I really should have saved all my data, as I miss quite a few of my earlier designs.
