Was there any amount of optimization done for .21?

I remember in the livestream, EJ was flying his shuttle and someone said that he was playing on a older and un-optimized version with the new shaders and that was causing some lag. Is there any performance increase at all as compared to the old shader model (I think that is what it is)?

Optimizations have me worried too, but I believe it will be ok, I will just add 100 or so more parts to my rockets so I can maintain the same lag I had with 0.20

Apparently they fixed the ocean shaders which were causing some lag, so there's that. There's also the new KSC models, which are 1/3 of the polys of the original KSC models, which is a significant improvement.

Wait... They fixed oceans?! That's amazing, I always had to go into the settings and change it so my oceans looked terrible.

The devs changed the way rendering works. Now the planets render fewer details when you are farther away

TLDR: Now you get a LOT less lag when orbiting a body

That's awesome.

Wow, awesome stuff, super pumped for this update more than ever!

anyone knows if they ease the partcount lag issue any bit?

see i started at 0.12 and i was playing with my notebook (i5 dual core 2.6G with HD5650M and it was silky smooth.... now... it cant even run the game already...

my desktop is phenomII 955 @4.0G HD4850 and it starts to lag when my part count is more than 400....

(well i know HD4850 is a stone aged card... but i mean... come on... it's still pretty good compared to intel's or AMD's built in GPU...)

I believe KSP only runs off the CPU, and a single core at that. It sucks for those of us with decent computers.

that's why i do an overclock...

the stock is 3.2G...

and i overclock core1 @4.0G

other cores at stock 3.2G

but still... the lag is super severe whenever i try to dock my ships to my 400+ part station for a refuel...(or restocking the lazor missiles: well...for blowing up Jebediah and his ship when he undocks)

This...

This had me laughing a lot harder than it probably should have.

Setting the physics delta time slider all the way to the right helps with FPS issues, but makes the game run in slow motion when flying huge ships. Either way, it makes controlling easier.

here i was thinking .21 would be the laggiest update yet, but it sounds like it might be the smoothest.

woah woah woah wait a minute, whats the story on the new terrain? the new mountain textures, and the new crater mesh? what effect will those have on performance?
