(IMAGE HEAVY) My first ever rescue mission! :) (IMAGE HEAVY)

Hey guys,

I realise a Mun rescue is no great shakes in the world of Kerbal, but for me it was my first ever rescue attempt where before i just used to end mission if something went wrong, i decided to try this after the new ability to add and remove pilots made me realise i could send up a two-man pod with just one Kerbal inside it.

Earlier i had flown to the Mun with a pre-update rocket and to my surprise i ran out of fuel just as i landed, it was a design that had safely returned me to Kerbin many times before, perhaps it was unfamiliarity with the new ASAS or simple lack of practice, none of that was of much importance to poor Bobly Kerman however, all he knew was that he was now stuck on the Mun with nothing to do but climb up and down his ship's ladder and read his own flag plaque.

Whether by skill or good fortune, Barbus manages to land within a couple of Kilometers of Bobly's landing site, all that remains is to let mission control tell Bobly help has arrived.

Without any need for further prompting, Bobly takes off with his Jetpack in the direction of the rescue ship.

An overjoyed Bobly finds his rescuer, never before in it's ancient history has the Mun witnessed such an occasion.

I had a mad amount of fun doing this mission, i'm really happy with the new update, if you've read this far thank you for your kind patience. :)

Love a good rescue mission. That was nicely done!

The pics are all very well selected.

My favourite:

His expression is perfect for the dialog.

(P.S. This is probably better in mission reports.)

My my, this is great!

My first rescue mission was on Gilly. I'm not kidding, in 0.17 I stranded Edan Kerman on the surface, because I forgot ASAS, tough to land. I decided I wanted to attempt a rescue mission with DYJ crewtank. So I did, and sent jeb there. Managed to bring Edan home. He couldn't get out, however, because I put the parachutes on the wrong spot.

Ah, this is just what I needed, a proof-of-concept. I'm in the planning stages of my own rescue mission, after this happened on my first attempt at a Mun landing: BRQ4N3tCQAAV-G3.png

The Kerbals survived the "landing" (and a multi-kilometer roll across the surface), so I've gotta go get them. Here's hoping my second landing attempt works better. :)

My rescue mission failed with my 5-passenger ship (carrying two with space to pick up 3) crashing into the Mun at over 500m/s. Who put that hill there up so high?

Sorry to hear it mate, any chance of being able to revert the mission so your Kerbals don't die? Sorry for the late reply, i don't seem to get any alerts for when people quote me or a thread i posted in gets more posts.

Excellent story and mission! The screenies and commentary really make it.

I have a ratehr bad case of "revertitis" and tend to try again instead of salvage. Also, when I screw up it's "mess up big or go home"... like, mess up at 600+ m/s and have a little bit of dust to rescue.

Ohh, that's an idea! make a "broom and dustpan" mod to collect the little fragments of Kerbal left of from "energetic kinetic force transfer events" (EKFTE).
