Better IVA outside view

Recommended Posts

I'm currently flying a rocket, with a mk1-2 Command pod.

This time i've only one driver, and wanted to make the flight from full IVA.

But then, horror: i can't see outside.;.;

I'm used to take one of the two other seats, so i'm able to see if something go kerbal. Also it's cooler.

But the "main" seat of this pod, is the back seats, with no view.

So i suggest to either make one of the other seat the "main" pilot seat, or better: modify the view so any kerbal inside is able to see what is happening.

In general: Make sure that every manned command module have exterior view from the main seat.

On a related note, a lot of asmospheric cocpkpits have a "front" point of view, wich is almost always hidden by the nose part of the craft, rendering IVA view useless.

IVA, I find, is impractical for actual use in most cases because the UI gets in the way. Imagine you are actually flying an airplane, in your FOV the window goes below the middle point, so you can get a decent range of sight. In KSP, however, all of the windows end in the middle of our FOV so all anyone can really see is the sky; there's no ground view (which is extremely important when landing a plane).

TL;DR: All IVA UI (control panels, navball, etc) should be lowered so that it ends 3 1/4 down to the bottom of the screen.

Thanks for Reading,

Happy Flying! :D

Perhaps you can mount your cockpit upside down, or use the lander cans, they are made for landing and have downwards IVA vision.

I'd like to see better IVA though. The windows tend to be awfully unuseful.

I was really hoping the Mk2 cockpit would have IVA by now. Just use the same IVA as the Mk1. With the Mk2's nose connection point, it could be great for use as a docking training tool while in IVA using that cockpit.

You folks should see the visibility of real spacecraft...

Instrumentation will almost always be more important than a nice view.

However, putting the first pilot in a seat with a window is definitely a good idea.

The cupola capsule is already something from Sci-Fi. You wouldn't launch a all glass capsule into orbit from the ground up.

If you want some kerbonaut/astronautish jellyfish...frozen...u will do that :D

When I had my rant I was talking about the Airplane Cockpits, not the Pods. The pods need to survive re-entry so they have very minimal windows. Cockpits, however, are meant for atmospheric travel and it wouldn't be unreasonable to let them have larger windows. Also, this game may simulate physics, but it is not a hardcore simulator for the sake of fun. So having unrealistically large windows on capsules can, and will be, forgiven.

Works for me :)
