[0.22] Universe Replacer v4.0

Are the original EVASuit textures stored in the KSP/Unity asset files using some weird name? I've checked every version of the game I have back to 19.1 and can't find them anywhere. (I've found every other part of a Kerbal, just none of the suit bits.) If anyone knows exactly which asset pack they're stored in on a specific version, I'd love some help finding them.

Thanks.

I love the flare you made and decided to try my hand at making one as well since I wanted to have some rays coming off of it and missed the lens artifacts. Here are some pics of the one I made and links to my dds files.

Nice work, already using it. I just wanted to know what texture mods you use for Kerbin and Duna. Is that a cloud mod for Duna? I can't find it.

Hi, i'm just wondering, can I create a wallpaper with that Eve texture?

Sure, I don't care what its used for. A few posts later I posted a higher resolution one, the clouds are a little different because they work better on a sphere.

But yeah, go wild.

Hey I don't suppose you have a version of that Eve Texture without the clouds, do you? Cause with rbray89(I think that's his name)'s clouds pack the clouds can be modeled as more than just a texture from space, and are actual floating layers visible from the ground. I really like this rendition of Eve though.

Resize to your heart's content.

I threw this together because I thought Eve looked a little bland and the other textures were zero-visibility cloud cover. I like clouds, just not… THAT much.

Thanks so much for this. I love the texture, but not so much the colors. So I'm going to try to alter it for personal use.

Edit: Aww yiss. :cool:

Is there a way to remove a texture? I added and then deleted Sylith's head pack, but I deleted it because I kept only getting female Kerbals (Not that I dislike female Kerbals, I just don't like Jeb with lipstick!). Anyway, I removed the textures, but they still appear in the game. How do I get the default head back?

You either:

Didn't restart the game after removing the textures. ie, you removed them while the game was still running.

Have those textures somewhere else. Did you "remove" them by moving them to another directory? I think the game will still load them and sometimes if you're (un)lucky, a texture pack can still find them.

Not sure if this is the right thread to post this (it's been a while since I read through it all, maybe things changed), but I whipped up a Skybox texture real quick the other day that I thought I'd share. Dunno if anyone will find it useful, but I had fun:

Here's an album with some screenshots and comparisons (old version): http://imgur.com/a/M4rop

EDIT: Recommended version with desaturated stars: http://www./download/7r985o59e36nzgt/zexysky_desaturated.zip

Comparison images: http://imgur.com/a/Apl0F

Old version (starts are more colorful, artificial): http://www./download/3tjcwl4li74wea5/zexysky.zip

I did it all with Spacescape and paint.net, so it's not exactly a masterpiece (I don't have much inherent artistic talent, so thank god for those programs), but I hope someone will find it useful. I had fun making it :)

Some notes:

I think I managed to get rid of that unsightly seam at the edges of the skybox.

I also added a few popular space images to the background for some variety.

I didn't add very many red stars (in fact I might not have added any true red stars at all). I did this for two reasons:

1. Adding red stars made things look really funky.

2. Red stars (as far as I've read) are very abundant, but normally not very visible, and what you see in the sky are often (but not always) caused by the atmosphere.

I also made the galaxy slightly darker, so it won't extend around the whole skybox. Just personal preference there.

So I guess it's about time I posted this. Here are the textures I threw together. The main focus of this pack was to keep the original look, but add detail. No fake craters, no bizzare coloring that make it difficult to tell biomes apart. Just round objects in the bleak vacuum of space that look nice from afar and (hopefully) aren't too much of an eyesore up close when coming in for a landing. (Though that's the toughest part, I find.)

Javascript is disabled. View full album

Download for UR.

Update (5/13/2014): I decided to carry over what I've done for Texture Replacer to Universe Replacer for those that still use it. The pack has undergone several iterations since I last updated, see gallery for new textures. As always, feedback welcome. I highly recommend using Visual Enhancements for clouds.

Important: Future updates are in the Texture Replacer thread, and most likely Texture Replacer exclusive.

I love this. The only thing that bothers me are the blue stars. They seem to stand out to me. Other than that, the galaxy and everything else is great. Much improved from the vanilla texture.

I'm totally with you on that, they've been bugging me since I loaded into the game earlier today. I'm a bit too christmas'd out to fix it right. Should be easy though.

Maybe just a little desaturation would help. Don't know if that'd affect the other stars or the galaxy too much, though. Still enjoying your skybox, though. Might be my favorite of all the ones I've used. I just like that it's not too overly complex or eye-catching, but when you do look at it it's not so much of an eyesore as the vanilla look.

Oh. He tricked me. :) Most UR Reddit links are to the forum posts and he posted that today, while the newest post on Reddit is 9 days ago.

Yeah, I put it on reddit first while I was still changing things, then put it up here when I felt everything was "finalized". :x Kinda derped that up a bit...

By the way, a texture for Tylo is included in the pack but as of v0.23 it doesn't appear in game, at least for me. That's why there's not a Tylo screenshot in the gallery.

That's exactly what I did. Thankfully I saved the layered file, so desaturating the stars didn't desaturate the galaxy or other parts of the image. I may just regenerate the whole starfield at some point but that'll do for now.

It's also on Reddit if you ever need to find it easily again.

Have a light blue EVA suit, for those Kerbals that want to look like janitors.

But take it from Romnad Kerman. Green is in season right now.

Excellent work! :cool: I'm especially a fan of the bolded.

Found a fix!

Edit lines 50 and 51 of UniverseReplacer.cfg (located at GameData\ UniverseReplacer\ Plugins\ PluginData\ UniverseReplacer):

Old:

rockymoon100 = Textures/Moons/Tylo/Tylo1

rockymoon101 = Textures/Moons/Tylo/Tylo2

New:

rockyMoon00 = Textures/Moons/Tylo/Tylo1

rockyMoon01 = Textures/Moons/Tylo/Tylo2

You might want to include the fixed .cfg in the texture pack, at least until Tingle updates it.

Heh. Did you fix that liquid mercury spacesuit? I also have no idea what I am doing. :sticktongue:

I did notice while messing with Eve that your textures for bodies with water didn't have alpha channels to prevent the land from being shiny. Kerbal Maps' data repository on MEGA has elevation .tif files that make excellent alpha masks if you're so inclined.

Haha, the "mercury" spacesuit was supposed to be an attempt at making a detailed spacesuit and darkening it slightly because I find the vanilla spacesuits to be too bright and plain. (Personal preferences!)

I'll look into that, if I can figure out how to use them. I'm honestly not an expert at this, I'm just experimenting and having fun as I go along. :sealed: Oh, and the download link has been updated with a fixed config file for Universe Replacer. I hope Tingle doesn't mind, I didn't put any other Universe Replacer files in the download.

Edit: Alright, I'm tired of how shiny Eve is. I can tolerate it with Kerbin and Laythe, but Eve is the worst of the bunch. If anyone can help me out with alpha channels I'd greatly appreciate it.
