A better way to see damage on ships

Well, after playing kerbal space program for about a year now, i've constantly run into the problem of not being able to see how damaged parts are.

So i've been working up the idea that, an overlay texture get's applied to objects that get damaged from collisions, and hot exhaust.

Like a light damage (from 10-30 percent damaged) would have a few marks, scratches, and maybe small holes.

Medium damage. (from 31-60 percent) would be like large scratches, big-ish holes (about big enough to stick a kerbal's hand through), and maybe even small gashes (and possible light fuel loss)

Heavy damage. (from 61-99 percent) basically, the texture (or maybe even a different model) would make it look like you just put it in a tumble dryer for an hour, then run over by a pickup truck. Large holes, big enough for a kerbal, MASSIVE gashes in the sides. and possible high amounts of fuel loss.

Now this system would basically be a setting you can turn on, or off.

now if this should be implemented, another way to improve it would be, the more damage a part takes. the more likely the part is going to fall off when impacting something.
