Radial decouplers as rover suspension

Recommended Posts

Blimey! Is that the way of it?

If we're going to start waving about transplanetary tower landers, we'll be at it all day! :)

That is just badass. What planet is that?

Actually, that was the polar region of Duna.

Oh, and I did some considerable testing today, in using radial decouplers as lander suspension. It isn't suitable with heavy weights. Sudden shock with lots of weight behind it peels those things off all too easy.

I tested radial decouplers as additional suspension for those baloon wheels. Basically 4 wheels around a rockomax 9 and some small engines to lift it. Using translatron i figured that baloon wheels would pop at about 6.5ms landing, while with suspension they would pop at about 8ms. If they landed all at the same time. Probably with smaller weight the speed would go up...

Part of me wants to try this technique on my own rovers, another part of me knows I'll just accidentally press space one day.

Maybe I'll create a version of that Radial Decoupler that doesn't decouple :P

That's amazing! Now I wish that there was someway in the SPH/VAB to disable decouplers using Action Keys.

The "standard hardpoints" have some serious flex, too, and they don't have the possibility of accidentally decoupling.

I might have to go try that...
