"Welding" Parts

Recommended Posts

So a couple of days ago I was looking at a thread about reducing lag on space stations, one guy (forgot his name) said to just weld the parts together. How do I go about "Welding" these parts?

You can't, in stock. There's http://forum.kerbalspaceprogram.com/showthread.php/38577-0-21-UbioZur-Welding-Ltd-Lower-your-part-count Which has some 'Pre-Welded' parts (actually new parts made out of multiple stock parts), and purports to be working on a plugin that I'm assuming might actually allow you to weld parts together.

Until then, there's nothing. Not that I'm aware of, anyway.

Use the search function. Plenty of threads on welding. All you do is create a new part that includes already existing parts put together. KSP reads this new part as a single part, even if it is made up of 50 existing stock parts. Yes, you can use all stock parts.

What Tiron said.

I did that mod more as a way to show to more people how it can be done. I am working on the in game version atm.

you can try to weld it by creating a new .cfg. And don't hesitate to pm me if you need help.

NOTA: you cannot weld several parts with crew hatch (it will bug), nor several parts like lights. I would try to stick to fuel tanks and structural parts to keep it safe.

Oh, if the OP meant welding pieces together while you are in the game then yes, you cannot do that yet (there are others working on attachment systems).

I've been able to weld several different components together, including docking ports and multiple lights, without issue. I haven't played with engines or crew hatches yet, but if you are using welding to create very large structures with low part count then you'll probably just be focusing on structural parts anyway.

This thread is quite old. Please consider starting a new thread rather than reviving this one.
