Kay, I'll give the answer tomorrow, if you don't find the answer by then :c

I'm fairly certain that this has already been guessed before, but on the slim chance I'm wrong, Another Universe?

Well, that answer's due anytime now. Can I go next? Please?

Here, I'll post it in InvisiText, for those who don't want to look yet.

I am the Thing that everyone dreads,

stalking, lurking around every dark bend.

Tendrils of panic that can corrupt and paralyze,

I am often perceived as a mere pair of eyes.

Ripping one's sanity from its weak, clinging bonds,

some people find me in deep, murky ponds.

Often you'll see me in the dark of the night,

where no one can help you escape from your plight.

Many a brave man has sacrificed their life

to me, be it by bullet or knife.

What am I?

I'll make it visible if Vaebn lets me go next.

Not this place, but another

Infinite and grander

My stars light up the sky

But no life has ever seen them

Why?

Because it's in a place where everyone has died. or where everyone can not see. or it's a dream

The answer was:

Olber's Paradox ( http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Olbers'_paradox )

And/or in terms of long answers, a universe where it holds true.

Not this place, but another --- Hint that it's something hypothetical.

Infinite and grander --- The size of it. Told you it's pretty literal :P

My stars light up the sky --- Actual descriptions of the sky conditions :P

But no life has ever seen them --- Hint that the conditions aren't good for life.

Why?

I said that the "parallel universe" answers were super close, however this is actually about a very specific case of them.

It was actually a relevant cosmological thought experiment, long before any sort of quantum theory (so nothing to do with that), or inflation theory (so nothing to do with randomly generated physical constants). The reason I didn't feel comfortable with the "parallel universe" answers is because:

a) it's not actually "parallel" to anything. ;)

B) Someone can make an infinite amount of alternative universe just by having a "a little bit stronger gravity", or "a little bit weaker nuclear forces". However, none of them have been such an important point of reference, to even have their conditions summed up by a name. In fact, it somewhat depends on the physical laws not being too different, having only to do with size.

Anyway,

Starwhip can go next ^^

Yeah, the probability of anyone getting that is super low. The riddle is plain in itself, but the answer being an abstract concept... eh... Yeah, no, too much of an intuitive leap for most, I think.

As to Starwhip's, I'd say fear, but that's seeming too obvious. xD

That which walks above us all, as we cower in fear,

In the skies above and the worlds around,

Yet never being quite right here,

Always half here and half not; existence unsound.

Ne'er a common sight in any world or plane,

Our forms are ever something to inspire fear,

Though wonder is never far off; in twain

Fear and wonderment describe our presence here.

My brethren and I are many, but few;

Large in number, but all so very different,

Even to one another as we wander through

Each world and find our efforts and lives spent.

What are we?

Your riddles are too hard, vexx.

*Breaks down into tears and huddles in the corner*

But seriously... how about spirits?

No, that seems wrong. Hmm...

I must think ao....woah. Is it riddles? Or thoughts. Wait. Those don't inspire fear.

*flips table in rage*

Nope. :D

The last is close.
Wait!!! STORMS!
Noooope!
Or Water Drops...

You know, rain?

CLOUDS!

No.
Perhaps, if not storms, lightning bolts?
Nope.
A comet or asteroid?
Nope. :)

Gods are close?

Hmm. Planets and gods are nearly the same thing (Planets were thought to be gods)

So planets?
