How do I disable the radial auto-attachment?

Recommended Posts

I'm building a rocket to which I want to attach a rover. However, when I build the rover I get the radial symmetry thing going on, which makes it impossible to add wheels in a rectangle. How do I disable the radial symmetry and let it attach perpendicularly to the surface of the rover base (which in this case is a rectangular block)?

Ps. the "Forgot password" function might not be working, it never recognizes the captcha. I had to fix a new account.

Click the snap to function bottom left of your screen, 'Toggle Angle Snap'. You can also press C instead of clicking it with your mouse. If you have x2 symmetry toggled you should be able to place 2 wheels at a time, opposite sides. So that you place front left and right rear, then front right and left rear.

Are you building in the VAB? If so, symmetry will *always* be radial, and all you can change is the number of copies. To get bilateral symmetry, your only option is to build the rover in the SPH. You can either build a rocket for it there (kind of awkward without radial symmetry) or copy the rover's craft file to the VAB (which can cause weirdnesses such as misplaced or disappearing struts, phantom part copies, etc.). There's no really good way to do this right now.

Go the the SPH, place a decoupler or any other dummy part as your base, then build your rover from there. Then, select everything except for the base piece (ie your rover) and save it as a subassembly. Load the subassembly in the VAB and you should be set.

...unless subassemblies don't transfer between VAB and SPH. Someone care to verify?

If you want, you can install the Editor Extensions mod. It allows you to switch between SPH and VAB modes, as well as disabling radial attachment and toggling vertical snap, among other things.

If you want to play stock, then the other users above me have some great suggestions.
