Novasilisko's planets

Nova, will you implement some sort of 'launcher' that appears in the KSP loading screen that lets us choose if we want to load the mod into the game or not(OR, have the option to choose if a newly-created save file will have Alternis Kerbol enabled)? This will make organizing save files with and without the mod easier.

Your planet re-makes are wonderful. Is this really just a replacement of the textures and parameters of the current planets in KSP, or are you doing something like planetfactory?

I believe planetfactory required the same design work for the planet surfaces, it just had extra things to bring new planets into the game rather than modifying and replacing the existing ones.

I think your mod, having Kerbin in the Jool system, completely changes the way people will play the game from the start, which is a good thing. The small size of the Jool system means missions to Laythe will occur in a shorter period of time and possibly earlier on too (i.e. a few days or weeks rather than months or over a year). I have planetfactory sitting around on my hard drive, and while it is great to have the extra planets they are really challenge worlds for later on in the game. Landing on your Tylo will be a new challenge I don't think we've had before, since the lander will need a huge thrust-to-weight ratio.

Are your re-done maps going to include biomes?

10/10 would start a new save over just for this mod.

Nah, not using planetfactory. Just re-arranging existing stuff, tweaking, changing.

Kerbin's relocation definetely makes things... a bit weird. Interplanetary stuff is trickier since you have to take into account Kerbin's orbit around Jool as well as Jool's position in the solar system. Kerbin also has a fairly substantial SOI, so inter-moon stuff is also interesting and a bit weird - to the point I may actually try lowering kerbin's radius and gravity, to see how that works. Tylo is a nightmare to land on, especially with deadly reentry. I strongly recommend using that for this, it makes things so much more interesting.

Biomes would be neat, but I don't know a thing about how they work internally.

Although, I need to hurry up and get this finished, getting a bit demotivated seeing a bunch of stuff starting to get made with PlanetFactory, while I'm sitting here making all this from scratch...

No need to hurry.

New stuff might come from PF, but it has an INSANE RAM consumption boost, and every new planet is only a clone of a stock world, edited a bit.

Your's will be original.

Well, to be fair, there's still a RAM hit from mine too. I have some ideas of how to reduce that, but for now...

Also, the same can be said about mine. They're just not clones - they ARE the stock worlds, edited a bit :sticktongue:

I have an odd question for you Nova. Could the colors be changed, to what is shown here, without realigning the planets? Only real reason I ask is I am fairly new yet and learning is what I want to do, but I also love the look of these.

Quite easily. I'm considering making a configurable lighting mod as a precursor.
