Suggestion: Remove ability to click through menus/buttons.

Recommended Posts

Don't know if it's a bug or just not something thought of yet, and a quick search didn't find any results, but when you're in the VAB and you click to save your subassemblies, you're able to click through the buttons and remove pieces of the craft.

Thanks!

Even though this is an old topic, this is a recurring problem with mods. Semi-transparent windows tend to send click signals right through them.

It would be good if the whole idea of clicking through windows could be scrapped. It's a giant pain in the neck to be constantly re-loading things and fixing up mistakes that happen because some complicated part of a spacecraft is moved when designing it, or because you've unselected your target while going through a maneuver burn while messing around in some window, and so forth.

It's one of the things that make this game difficult in the long run, constantly having to be aligning windows in such a way that nothing is beneath them, and having to either re-load or fix things whenever something happens to be beneath a clicked control in a window, which is most of the time, in fact.

I cannot imagine anyone ever finding it useful to be able to click through windows.

@linuxgurugamer  I'm pretty sure that some mods have fixed it.  Kerbal Alarm Clock comes to mind. (It even has settings to turn click through protection on and off).

It would be good if Squad could provide a simple way for all mods to do the same thing.

Tagging @TriggerAu to see if he could perhaps explain how he did it, and maybe even get Squad to support an api so that other mod authors easily add click through protection.

There is a simple (to describe :D) way to fix it for all mods: make everything with the Unity UI.

Find all of the old mods that still use the old IMGUI and replace them with the new UI, and never release a new mod using the old UI. Problem solved. You still need input locks for things like text input fields, or for when you need some other form of keyboard input, but that is relatively simple.
