HGR 1.875m parts R&D Thread [Mod reboot in progress] (First Dev build now available)

I think it was on topic actually. Thanks for the mission report, I'm glad the soy-juice is seeing service.

I'm not working on any parts right now, Im at Korean BBQ :sticktongue:

But I have been working on fairings and the onion's IVA. I already got the LAS tower made, just needs to be refined. I'm planning for the top base for the fairings also be a docking port to keep part count down. Out of curiosity is there actually any interest in tiny stabilizer fins?

Stab fins could be interesting, depending on how ones booster is designed. If it were me, i'd say they'd be 'nice to have', but no real priority job.

Also BBQ, jealous :P

Not particularly? While I do think they would be helpful, I feel like Stock (or B9 which is my alternative) does a good enough job providing stabilization options.

Yeah same here. It would be neat, but unnecessary given all the different options in stock parts and other mods. I find the KSO vertical stabilizers work surprisingly well with HGR tanks, aesthetically speaking.

Do want onion/lemon IVA. If in game already, show us some progress plz. If not, then keep doing whatever you are doing.

It's not in game yet, I've been more focused on trying to get all the parts that are necessary to make this a complete package into the game. The IVA is more of a vanity/ polish element, so I haven't given it a ton of attention. The plan is to get all the remaining parts that I feel are needed to release the soyuz version out in the next update. (Fairings,LES tower, Decoupler, etc) Then I'll be working on a polishing pass for all those parts to get them ready for a release, that's when you'll likely see the IVA. I'll try to include more of the in-game company names for parts, however expect the pods and 1.875m parts to remain HGR since those have always been the primary focus of the mod and I see the manufacturer as a kind of artist's signature.

I've got the Escape tower in game and I think I've found a color scheme for the boosters that I'm happy with. They both still lack polish. (i.e. scatches, dirt, chips etc) I'd also like to add some russian word and such to a few of the parts. Namely the OM and boosters, so if anyone has ideas I'd like to hear em/ get help with characters and such.

Anyway that's the current state of things and plans going forward, thanks everybody.

For the OM try Ûуú. It's Russian for onion.(I think.)(I used google translate.)

Phonetically, at least, it's identical to "leek," which is indeed a species of onion (or at least closely related), so that might fit.

I don't really know Russian, either, but I can sight-read a good amount of the Cyrillic alphabet enough to tell how the words are pronounced sometimes.

I hadn't considered it honestly. Aren't those for grid fins or something like that? I think others mentioned it a few pages back.

Yes, dey are. So how are you planning on redesigning the original onion/new shallot? Besides the obvious need for a new hatch.

I actually typed in leek, and it came up with this: ÃœøрÑÂýøý. Nothing alike.

Are those Proc Fairings in the pics or are those yours? I just think the fairings should go further and meet around the tower up the LES and the tower should be slightly taller, if you are going for the Soyuzesue feeling. However I know you aren't making a replica and to be perfectly honest it looks great either way. Look at the pic below see how tall the LES is and the fairings go above the cone and wrap around the the tower. Also what if you wrote "ôþüþрþщõýýыõ рðúõты" translation home grown rockets.

I think the advice from FASA is applicable here; it's not a replica of a real rocket, just inspired by it. I really like the look of that LES tower, even if it's not 'realistic'. ("MOAR Boosters!")

As for fairings, yours look great along with the rest of the stack. The PFairings are working very well here still though, even if (horror), I have to eject them during an abort. (I'm content with this deviation from reality; parts flying everywhere just adds to the fun of a bailout :D )

Thanks guys, the fairings are just Pfairings, I'm just using them to see the projected size of my own. I did start mine, but I'm taking the weekend off from modding so they might not be available for another week or so.

I just noticed one of my files released with realfuels. That's cool with me, but that version is missing some stuff. So here is a more complete version also covering engines.

https://www.dropbox.com/s/f3vqmm0vs5p4hdl/HGR.cfg (replace the HGR.cfg in your refuels directory)

Recent Changes...

Added nosecone tank. (Kerbal engineer doesn't read it properly, something to do with labels I assume.)

Added support for service modules.

-Both have 1000 ElectricCharge and MMH/N2O4 tanks added by default

-SoySvcMod engine supported

Added support for all three tanks

Future wants...

-Default O2/Water/Food tanks for service modules.

-Default monoprop for service modules?

Other than the fairings, a decoupler, and the tail fins, the following are all HGR parts using realfuels in RSS (the full-sized earth launching from Canaveral).

Sandworm: apologies, I thought you'd posted them in the RF thread and wanted them in. Very sorry it came as a surprise! (I found them in my folder when I was going through to put things in RF; lacked context)

Will add the above the repo.

@Sandworm

I updated the link in the OP to your new one. It's good seeing the spud getting used in the new launcher. I've been thinking about making a vostok myself, but always end up using it as an LK type lander. :D

I found that a Stayputnik can be launched to orbit using 64:10 scale Kerbin, a KIDS values of Vac1.125/atm0.85, a long walk, short tank and orange-grey tank core with short tank and orange core boosters with the fueled nosecone will get to orbit with a tiny bit to spare.

OG Soyuz LES was a lot shorter than the one currently use (because Soyuz 7K-OK was more than half a ton lighter than current Soyuz TMA-M), and I think Orionkermin's one is a nice compromise between all the designs.

That said, Orionkermin, I'm offering my first born for a Starclipper implementation or the Titov system from World of 2001 (which was basically a russified Starclipper, http://www.worldof2001.com/tech.htm). Just an extra incentive for your followup =D
