So if someone wanted to support your efforts with a modest donation, how would they go about that?

Wait a while, until there's some manner of official preorder thing set up. Donations are tricky to have, even if you put in huge red letters that donating doesn't entitle you to a copy of the game, people will think it does anyway. :P

Copy that. Wasn't expecting anything. Just wanted to help out a genius. But I'll wait until pre-order.

Did up some lights that come on after the sun sets. Need to make proper sources for them, but...

(still no real earth stars)

Edit: And a quick video of a sunrise http://gfycat.com/AnimatedCornyKouprey

Still at much accelerated time, final one will be real-time.

Nice work lately! One question, how are you creating procedural planets? My attempt wasn't very good.

Generally it's just a process of having multiple layers of noise blended together over either a fully procedural sphere, or a pre-made mesh sphere. For terrain textures, it's a matter of using vertex colors to blend together the different textures, and using a triplanar shader to make it map nicely onto a sphere.

For the terrain itself, look into Libnoise.
