Heinkel He 126 design

Recommended Posts

I don't really know what to post here apart from: How do I make my plane fly and look like this:

So I don't have that much problem with the look, but the engine makes it frontflip every time I try to lift off.

I want to make it stock. Any clues on how to put that jet engine on top with plane being flyable?

You guys know that feeling when you ask about something and then few moments later you figure something out for yourself? Yeaaaaah...

Here's what i did

Needs some tweaking but it works.

Anyway thanks for help Kvick.

To make matters easier for people searching for pics, that's the 162, not 126 :P

Looking really nice!

Edit: I've tried to make it once and found that small structural panels work well for rear stabilizers. Of course, that makes its tail a bit heavier...

I can think of two ways of doing this, the first is lowering the tail and keep the fuselage light and engines heavy to have the thrust centered like I did on my mini A-10 replica: vUhoW9H.png

Or by placing the wings in a 5 to 10 degrees pitched up position so that it counteracts the pitching down caused by the engine. I built this quickly, so it is not the most maneuverable plane but it's a proof of concept: ikjp8p1.png

Thank you everyone for help, but I came up with my own solution.

You can't see it on this pic, but the fuel tank with engine and air intake are attached to a tilted H-beam. The beam itself is on the cockpit, because the tail section has some problems with symmetry. That way I could experiment with the angle of thrust without touching the engine section.

And yes, I know about the 162 thing. I just had a derp moment there not remembering the actual plane name.

I love making real-world inspired planes. The best SSTO I ever made was roughly based on a P-38.

Also, FAR helps a bit in dealing with off-center thrust, but adds a bunch of other stuff to contend with.
