For flight sims, Microsoft’s Flight Simulator series, definitely. I’ve had all of them since MSFS 4.1, which came on a single 3.5†floppy, all the way through FSX.

My first computer game was subLOGIC A2FS2, the immediate ancestor of the first MSFS (Microsoft bought out the original developer). It was on a double sided 5-1/4" floppy disk, 140 kilobytes per side, you physically removed the disk and flipped it over to finish loading the game; still, I had it good, I hear there was a version on CASSETTE TAPE. It had four discrete regions of scenery; in theory you could enable the infinite fuel hack and fly your 124mph Piper Arrow all the way across the empty featureless void from the patch of a few airfields around Chicago to a few more around New York, but with no autopilot and no joystick, I never bothered.

I only had a monochrome amber monitor at the time, too, so pretending to fly that far IFR would have been very difficult, as my artificial horizon was a black-and-yellow checkerboard pattern for the sky, and a slightly offset but otherwise identical black-and-yellow checkerboard pattern for the ground. :D

It had great pack-ins, though. Along with the usual instruction manual there was a separate, slightly thicker manual on the basics of flight, laminated keyboard reference cards, and best of all, printed maps of each region for VOR/NDB navigation.

What really bugs me is the TrackIR. It bugs me because the man obviously must know how great headtracking is for any kind of flying game; how superior it is to looking around with the mouse. So why doesn't TrackIR work with KSP?

Well crap. Looks like we're paying him to much

Don't forget KSP doing well means more awesome future developments.

Reading the artilce, that's a good list of favourite games. I hope some influence from them makes it through to KSP.

How old are those monitors?! Haha, they just look like something from 2007.

In all seriousness, I love HarvesteR and that rig is way better let's say different than my cozy rig. Sweet setup and I'm jealous! :)

Heh, they actually are from 2007. They're the oldest things in the setup at the moment. The TH2Go was the only way to have triple contiguous displays back then, Surround and Eyefinity weren't a thing yet. I still like the TH2Go better than a GPU-based setup, because it means the GPU is freely replaceable, and there's no need to fuss about with drivers... As far as the GPU knows, there is only one triple-wide display hooked into the primary output port.

What really bugs me is the TrackIR. It bugs me because the man obviously must know how great headtracking is for any kind of flying game; how superior it is to looking around with the mouse. So why doesn't TrackIR work with KSP?

I know, and I would very much like to add TIR support here too, but there's always something of higher priority that needs to get done first. We'll get there eventually...

Cheers

Hey harv, noticed you had an x-52 pro. There is an easy mod that removes the slop in the movement of the stick, and gives it more firmness and more centering. I use this on my x-52. Neat thing is, if you don't like it, it takes 2 seconds to remove.

First, make this:

then, stick in on top of the spring like this:

what it does, is compresses the spring about an inch, making it more stiffer. Easy!

I've had pretty much everything that HarvesteR has (albeit earlier models... ie the Nostromo N50 which I still feel is superior to the later N52 models as it is easier to figure out which button you are pressing for fast games) and the Logitech G13 Advanced Gameboard just has WAYYYYY too many buttons  that I cannot just look at the screen and press the keys I need. I tend to find a Microsoft Ergonomic 4000 keyboard is tons better for me (although I just busted mine - fractured cable).

I even had one of the first incarnations of the X-52. I think it was the X-45 (but mine was all black) and it sucked lol. WAY too much slop and it drifted like crazy. Saitek learned a lot from those bombs.

I used to have a chair that had my Nostromo N50 on one arm and a Logitech trackball marble on the other (I prefer trackballs over mice and haven't used a mouse in years).

But the one thing I REALLY want from that picture are the 3D joystick things (Space Mouse and Navigator) which I will be getting sometime this year. Oh and I have tons of flight simulator stuff (up to and including panels from REAL aeroplanes that I got off eBay lol). One of these days I will finish putting together my ATR-72 sim... one day.

Edit: Yes, I too am a gadget whore!

im not a huge fan of saitek's offerings. i prefer independant springs on each axis rather than a one spring does both arrangement. i went from x-52 to ch and never wanted to go back. i dont even miss the twist handle.

What really bugs me is the TrackIR. It bugs me because the man obviously must know how great headtracking is for any kind of flying game; how superior it is to looking around with the mouse. So why doesn't TrackIR work with KSP?

mine does. maybe you should check the addon forums.
