3D printing your ships

I figure one of you modeling guys might know this.

Is it possible to get one of your own ship designs 3D printed?

I have this one Tug that I use constantly, I have stared at this thing for probably days worth of time. I would love to have a 3D model of it.

I think ninjaripper can take the models out of the game. But if I remember correctly, when I tried to use it, I got lots of little parts of a ship and not the whole thing as one model. So I think you would need to build the rocket from scratch with the models ninjaripper gives you.

sounds about right. ninjaripper pulls models from the game's data files. so you get a copy of all the parts in KSP. then you need to assemble it in another app as you would in VAB before sending it for printing. That could be a good thing... you get all the individual parts printed, and you can assemble ships on your desk with some superglue.

I remember last time this came up someone mentioned a mod that "welds" all the parts together. Just throwing it out there in case it's useful... If anyone ever figures out a relatively easy way to do it (I know almost nothing about 3d modeling) I'd love to get a couple of my ships 3d printed as well.

Hmm, there's an idea. Anyone know of any space-related airfix? Because I would buy the heck out of that. Especially if the parts resembled KSP. Double especially if you 3d printed it first. It would make it so much easier to derail all conversations onto the subject of space!
