[1.12.X] Tantares - Stockalike Soyuz and MIR [26.0][18.12.2023][Soyuz Revamp Again]

Perhaps, instead of a Capsule Fairing, you could make a shroud that mounts in between the capsule and the Orbital module? It could also serve as the decoupler.

Always glad to help!

Possible, but I am really against very specific parts like that. Still good idea :)

Is there any chance in getting subassemblies made for the LV's? I keep messing something up when i try to put the R7 together...

I'm sure it has already been said at some point, but no matter how much I search I cannot find it...

I'll put some up soon. I'm afraid I'm really caught up with work at the moment, so perhaps tomorrow :)

It's not me who originally posted the link to this blog, but this thread start to be difficult to follow with 258 pages (that explains why i was not aware that this link had been already posted, but it's good to post it back as it is interesting).

As I said, i'm curious to know how the Fuji capsule was supposed to be arranged internally. Either the capsule is extremely larger than what i think in regards with other spacecraft (as Orion), either it is really tight inside, because the capsule is surprisingly flat !

A part that no-one ever proposed, but that has been already made by someone else for another reason, I can suggest the Columbus module. In its current form, it is part of the ISS. But initially, it was supposed to be part of the Columbus MTFF.

As reference, Columbus has the same diameter as the ATV (already done by Beale).

A size chart! http://www.shokabo.co.jp/author/8758/fujicapsuleC1.jpg

That's the reason for the ridiculously big Mission Module.

No interior "shots" (Well, it was never past the concept stage). But essentially yes, very cramped and small inside. Roughly the same diameter of the Apollo CSM, but much shorter.

It's where the living module comes in for anything more than short orbital hops.

The flat shape supposedly lends itself to "gentle" re-entrys (IIRC around 2-3Gs only).

About the Columbus:

Cool! Really Cool!

Never heard of it. Is it similar to the "Leonardo" module?

I like it :)

@billbobjebkirk

Totally love that image! I've used it for both the Soyuz and Vostok also in the past!

Seconded. It'd be nice to get crafts for these lifters built as Beale intended them. Maybe leave out procedural fairing base for people who aren't using them?

On a semi-related note, I have yet to have a catastrophic failure that wasn't clearly my own fault with Beale's R7 design. When assembled how I'd logically assume that it's supposed to be put together, the R7 is incredibly stable and reliable, even with FAR. The booster design keeps the CoM really low on the rocket, which is essential when running FAR or NEAR. With scaled down, short-fire sep motors, the boosters will "korolev" every time, beautifully, without fail.

Beale, one issue I've run into now that I've started using Tantares parts much more frequently in my vessel designs, is the probe and drogue docking rings. I believe the acquire range and magnetism s much too strong. I've had spacecraft get ripped apart due to the torque and oscillations of the docking nodes mating together violently. Any way we could get this tuned down a bit closer to stock levels? I like the wide acquire angle that the probe and drogue design allows, but not the force and acceleration with which they align and mate.

Hi!

Thanks for the feedback!

I'll put up some "Official" craft for the launchers and what-not when I have some free time :)

Good to hear about performance in FAR, also!

Erm, the docking ports. I think you can specify magnetism forces in the configs.

Currently they are default, so should behave the same as stock.

Yes, I agree, especially docking the larger FGB modules to the small nodes, or docking the FOBOS grunt, the forces are quite violent.

I'll take a look, for sure!

Columbus is currently one of the modules of ISS, but it was considered to be an independent European space station linked to the Hermès shuttle.

Oh!

Now that is even cooler with the full concept. Do I have a Hermes lying around anywhere?

Out of pure, random curiosity, Belgian, Lux or Swiss? Your location has me staring at maps and scratching my head

The Fuji - I will initially release the craft without the OM. That will take a little while extra. But the basic system (DM, Heatshield, RCS Booms, Fuel Tank, Engine), I think quite soon.

After installing Kristall with its APAS-89 "universal" docking ports, "Mir" station became capable of connecting to Buran and next module, Spektr, was to be delivered on the next Buran-Energiya launch, second in its history (yep, I'm back from RO):

More launches will come soon! :)

Heatshield Design

More or less a re-hash of the old one. But with a much less wasteful texture.

Plenty of space left!

As others may notice. I am a little addicted to texture sharing now... It is surprisingly fun!

Very pretty indeed! Shame about the D2, but thanks for remaking the Fuji.

Wowow!

I really like this! What is the mods? Tiberdyne?

I have been meaning to try a shuttle style launch for a while :)

Thanks!

Yes, it is a shame. I would not put the nail in the coffin of the D2 just yet. But I cannot see a way around the bugs...

The docking node issue: It looks like the "Hub" part has been scaled down... Erm, not sure what can cause that. Can I ask what mods you use?

Uh, there's a bunch... 6.4x rescale, Engineer, RemoteTech, StationParts expansion, HGR (soon to be phased out thanks to Tantares), Procedural Parts, FAR... but nothing that springs to my mind really which should have made that happen. I'll try a Tantares reinstall during the weekend.

Yeah, it's Tiberdyne, I just wanted some Energia launcher to make a Vulkan rocket and then decided "Ah, screw it, Buran will be cooler!"

I'm actually a bad pilot, so this is a challenge for me. :)

By the way, Fuji is looking nice! The original craft is kinda weird, but I like this shape. :)

And I guess the dev will be slower if you buy a bread simulator on steam ( á~ Üʖ á°)

And the last module, Priroda has been installed with Jeb deploying its antenna on EVA! :)

OOh I love dev pics!(So I can dream about when waiting to be released)

I hope we will see probes soon especialy Mars and Venera probes

Hehe, thanks!

You will see those probes, in time.

Any chance we can get an "open" decoupler for between the R-7 Sustainer stage and Block I? Like below:

http://www.russianspaceweb.com/images/rockets/soyuz/stage3/fueled_1.jpg

Yes, for sure - As the engine fairings (Similar to the ones currently seen on the ALV).

The current ones are more or less placeholders (The open style ones take quite a while to model).

Hi Beale

So productive as always you are :)

Have you solved a shroud issue for D2?

Thanks!

Sadly, no. The old game-breaking camera bug is still happening.

Hmmm...

I have a suspicion it is a fault on my end, and I need to specify a rescale factor for all parts using a MODEL{} node system.

I will look into it.

Thanks for bringing this issue to my attention :)

Yeah, it's Tiberdyne, I just wanted some Energia launcher to make a Vulkan rocket and then decided "Ah, screw it, Buran will be cooler!"

Nice! I will surely try this!

Thanks on the Fuji!

Cool EVA action, also!

And I guess the dev will be slower if you buy a bread simulator on steam ( á~ Üʖ á°)

Thank you for cutting dev productivity by 50%.

But I do find that game deeply offensive towards all Breadkin.

This is a weak attempt at sarcasm, before anyone thinks I am actually insane / Slowing down Dev.

Will we fit everything on one texture? It's getting cramped!

Find out next week on "Super Beale texture dev adventures!"

Really good work, love it!!

Can't wait for the mission module!!

I see you've made it *slightly* bigger. Feeling sympathetic for your kerbals I guess!!

Beale, will you be making the Expansion Module for the Fuji (the orbital module at the top of the image)?

You'd stuff your lovely kerbals into that tin can of a descent module??

You have less regard for your kerbals than Xacktar!!

Am hyped for fuji mission module almost as much as 0.90!!

Many thanks!

The capsule, very slightly bigger yes.

Well, it is the same height, but more of a very flat bell shape, rather than straight conical. :)

lookin goood

Thanks! :)

Oh, the intrigue! I love it! Slowly this mod became The Universal Stockalike Mod That Fits Everyone and it's awesome. :)

Very nice to hear! Thankyou :)

http://upload.wikimedia.org/wikipedia/en/b/b0/Fuji_spacecraft_standard_system.jpg

Yes for sure. But, initially, I'll release Fuji in a "basic" configuration (I think).

That latticework for an engine fairing looks supersweet. Way better then my disabling the fairing (tweakable everything mod) and putting struts around.

Glad you like it!

Erm, it is soon-ish I suppose.

Hmmmmm, I may work up a stock or stock and Tantares launch vehicle for the Fuji.

That would be very good to see! :)

Engine

A really basic design (But so is the concept), intentional. I have a few ideas for this...

fc2edb1c07.jpg

1a4ff5600a.jpg

So...

I have this much space for the Expansion Module. It will be tricky.

8d923adef5.jpg

But, I am confident the Fuji will be my first single-texture craft.

For solar panels, I am planning to make all solar panels in the pack use a shared texture (In a separate TEXTURE folder alongside SOYUZ, SALYUT, etc. But, er, that can take some time )

Edit: Also, it needs a parachute... erm, could be tricky to fit all that in.

yay! new fuji engine

I always liked it. It made a surprisingly good lander engine, both in aesthetics and performance.

Why not just expand the texture field? Give you more room to fit in stuff?

EDIT: Also, I've been wondering if you're gonna be making any forays into spaceplanes? That'd be a good field for you to explore after you've pretty much done every capsule spacecraft.
