[1.8.X] Tantares - Stockalike Soyuz and MIR [20.0][10/11/2019]

Good job! Looks really nice.

Thanks! :)

The slants at the bottom of the (radial tanks?) on the real Proton, slant upward, exposing part of the engine assembly. It's due to these pieces indicated (don't know what they're for. Possibly aerodynamic stability or exhaust protection?)

Just so you know.

Eh, you know I have got this wrong. :huh:

Thanks for pointing this out. Possibly I will change it, but first I need to model the nozzles and see how they will look.

Modelling the nozzles separate so that they can gimbal all nice.

Why would it matter anyway, you're not doing the real Proton after all, you're making some ALV thingy to shoot little green men into space... :)

Anyway, looks great!

So for the N1, is "exploding with enough force to turn the entire KSC into a new part of Booster Bay" going to be something we can disable? I'm totally cool with no.

No, it will explode, and you will like it.

Not really, it'll fly smooth.

How does the size of the new stage compare to the size of the old one?

The size difference isn't insignificant, the new one is a bit bigger.

I remember this, really cool!

The new Proton, may be less powerful, it might not be SSTO capable anymore.

Gnom? you remember that scary truck towable/launchable ICBM from a while back.

Or if you ever branch into areoplanes here's a little soviet gem from early in the jet age.

Beale, When your completely done with all your Soviet/Russian Spacecraft, Could you make more 'Merican,Japanese,Indian,Chinese and European Spacecraft? Such as the Orion,Mercury,Skylab,Gemini,Apollo,MOL,CST-100,ISRO Orbital Vehicle,HTV,Shuguang,Kankoh-maru, and the Dragon Spacecraft?

Could we maybe have the markings on the side of the rocket in red for a little more color? A flag decal wouldn't be too bad either.

I have just completed Beales tutorial on things for the purpose of making my own mods based on some of those. Specifically Mercury, Gemini, and some service modules.

Of course I have no idea if I have any talent in the area yet, but if you feel like trying it out I would recommend the tutorial.

Everyone is making huge rocket and I'm just sitting there, recreating Vostok 3 and 4, the first group flight.

If I could figure out wheels, Gnom would be good, as would Lunokhod!

Some ground vehicle in general would be cool. :cool:

Very glad the new one is bigger. Bigger is better for 95% of things in KSP.

I like this ethos!

I doubt it, it's really out of scope for me.

Things like the Fuji and ATV are more one off. little fun projects.

In reality, there is an endless pit of Russian stuff, and I am digging that pit deeper (I'm not complaining, I want to reach the bottom!)

Quite likely! If not red, then orange.

Flag decal, I will have that one the second stage.

And new ATV needs flag decal...

Cool!

I look forward to see what you produce!

A Voskhod is still needed :blush:

Cool SSTO!

You can backup the existing engine: rename the folder and part.cfg's name to ALV_Engine_A1, or something else, then you can keep both :) .

For the new one, balance is:

Mass = 16 (17 maybe?)

maxThrust = 2700

LF = 9720

OX = = 11880

So, it has quite a lot more fuel than the previous ALV, but now has a Dry/Wet ratio in line with stock 3.75m tanks.

If I was Beal, I'd wait with bases until Squad starts working on them properly...

Else you might have a disaster similiar to BobCats Lunokhod, which required a special plug-in to work before rovers were added, and since then never really started working properly (I still have some torque issues :( )

Beale, you might want to take a look at the proposal on the Russian Moon base:

I have seen it now! And I am absolutely smitten with it.

Real thanks for linking this.

I feel like every other Moon base proposal it will go nowhere, but let's have some fun with it...

Really need a Fregat for this, but the Fuji tank is a stand-in.

Yes, unfortunately this is probably the best method. Stock wheels are badly in need of an overhaul, which hopefully is what Beta is all about. Current setup in Unity is only well understood by a few (I really rely on those few for help making previous wheels) and in-game wheels are too unpredictable (rolling uphill?).

I love that you have labeled one of the bins "smooth jazz".

It gets the Geckos in the mood :wink:

I like how in that base they land the Soyuz directly on the Moon. There is nothing Soyuz can't do!
