[1.12.X] Tantares - Stockalike Soyuz and MIR [26.0][18.12.2023][Soyuz Revamp Again]

The new Soyuz looks very nice! But the stripes were (and would be) nice!

the engines aren't powerful enough

Wow, really? My impression is just the opposite. I use the Soyuz rockets to lift my small payloads - Soyuz spacecraft (called Khleb ;)) and satellites, and I find myself either using the second-stage four-nozzle engines on the first stage/boosters, or dialling the thrust way back. That being said, I don't mind that they are that way, it allows for good flexibility using the same basic design (as the Semyorka also gradually evolved into a much larger launch vehicle), and since I'll probably be switching to an upsized Kerbin soon, I'll appreciate all the thrust I can get.

Well... Maybe the second stage and core stage aren't powerful enough, but the boosters are fine.

Also, @Beale, as I mentioned a while back, is there any way you could turn those little engine ports around on the bottom of the Proton first stage? I don't know why it bothers me but IRL the bottom of the Proton tapers inward, yours... doesn't.

You should make a version of the core tank for Soyuz 2-1v <3

NK-33 Main engine would be nice! :)

Before I build and launch stuff, are the stock docking ports (small and medium Clampotrons) compatible with the small and medium androgynous docking ports of this mod?

The androgynous ports are only compatible with themselves (of the same size) IIRC.

There is no inter-compatibility.

Nice texture! :)

Many thanks!

I'll play with some colours to tell what is best :)

I don't think to do that right now (it's a little harder to do than it would seem). But, perhaps in the future.

I am not a fan of the orange stripes, but that's just my opinion.

Texture is okay.

A large amount of mirroring needed to be used for the booster tanks.

How about Clampotron with the docking probes?

Thanks!

How about Clampotron with the docking probes?

Yep!

0.9375m (Between tiny and small size) are compatible with the Clampotron.

0.625m (top of the Cygnus size) are compatible with the Clampotron Jr.

BTW how do I see those sizes in-game?

Beale, may I ask you for some features for new Soyuz-style R-7? Please, split dual conic tank into two parts and add another bottom conical tank with upper diameter is 1.875m and cylinder tank with current middle diameter. Why so difficult? I think, it can make some interesting configurations for R-7 style rockets.

So you are saying split the conical tank into 2 1.25-1.875m adapters? I like that. Although if you do that, please add a 1.875m fairing.

Wow, I'm a little late again, but that R-7 looks magnificent! The orange stripes look perfect on the rocket, and if you don't like them, you can always make an alternate texture. I think it would be cool to see a military green texture for R-7 ICBMs, and maybe that grey one you have for Sputnik/Vostok/Voskhod rockets.

I haven't played KSP in earnest for a while now, but when this R-7 is released,I'm gonna have a KSP binge like you've never seen before!

Well, maybe you have seen it before, I don't know how long other people play KSP at a time...

I really like the texture and all (Except for the orange bit. It looks better plain.) but I don't know... those boosters... they don't seem to properly match the shape of the IRL R-7 rockets.

^ I found this but I don't remember where. It's a great website for reference for replicas as well as modeling, I would imagine!

One thing I used to like about tantares was that it was more kerbalized soviet-alike then replica. For some time now I've felt its lost that flavor and become more replica.

As a result I only install spica because its still a great 2 crew pod and skip the rest.

Just one long time user's 2¢.

I said essentially this in this thread some months ago and was told I was being silly.

But, hey, Beale does this because he enjoys it. It's his party and I'm just an observer with no expectation that I need to be catered to.

Solar panel placement is turning out to be a real pain. Still far from finished.

Scale is also an issue. What do you guys think? Is the HTV 1.875m, or closer to 2.5m? From what I've seen, it's similar in diameter to the ATV, so I'm thinking it might be 2.5m...

Big issue is part bloat. The Tantares parts pack is getting awfully large, and adapters and off-sizes are a bit of a concern. Additionally, 1.875 would be even less proportional than the current Tantares. It's just too big scale/accuracy-wise, as well as balance wise. Beale is doing the right thing by sticking with the 1.25m R7. It's really the best compromise. Regardless of his design choices, TweakScale will still allow all sorts of fun sizes. 1.875m is one of these, as is the more accurate 1.5m.

I don't think it's silly at all, I just don't get it I suppose. What exactly is someone with your play-style looking for in a parts mod?

I give you the Mir Space Station.

Find the craft files at http://kerbalx.com/CaptKordite/craft

See my pictures at https://www.flickr.com/photos/kordite/albums/72157650405489321

Since the craft files from previous versions aren't working in the latest, I needed to build from scratch. Took me about a week. Also a few other adaptations since some parts from previous versions aren't here either.
